i am debating over apple and a sony vaio, apple is winining but will i be able to install word and edexcel on it? and if I do will it work normally or is it just an unnesesery headache?

Microsoft Works became into disconntinued in like 1980, Microsoft workplace replaced it. Microsoft sells Microsoft workplace for the Mac. P.S. Macs are actually not computers, computers are incredibly plenty "non-Macs"

2. You can use a program t(boot camp, parallels) that will run XP on a mac and you can use Office that way in needed.
