Even with training wheels, a bike is not stable enough for a child this age. Start out with a little red tricycle until he's closer to four years old. Then he'll be ready for a little two-wheeler with training wheels!

My Daughter is almost 2 and we got her a 10 inch bike a couple months ago becouse she was trying to ride her older cousin's bike. She Loves it! It may not be as stable as a trike but I feel like she is close enough to the ground that if she falls she isn't going to get hurt plus she loves wearing her helment. She doesn't really use the pedals yet but she loves doing whatever the bigger kids are doing so just sitting on a bike like the big kids and pushing herself around makes her day. It is also very popular at playgroup with all the kids. Go for it.

My son just turned two....he could pedal a tricycle a few months ago...we got him a bike for his B-Day...he rides it just fine....he has a little trouble turning and steering on the sidewalk, but so has every kid I have seen who just started riding a bike....I would say go for it....make sure to get the helmet and pads...we got my son some from the movie "Cars"...he look really cute with the knee pads, elbow pads and helmet....do go for it if you want to.

My son is 2 and a half he loves his bike but we got it for him a year ago and it sat in the closet till now cause he couldnt ride it yet even though he wanted to, I would wait a bit, or try a tricycle it may be better.

I would say that it's too soon. Unless he's advanced or tall for his age. What about one of those ride on toys that you have to push with your feet or one of those "Little Tikes" cars that you push around instead? If you do decide to get him a bike, get a bike helmet and make sure it fits properly.

Is your son mentally and physically ready for the bike.

My son has above average height and when he was 2.5 we introduced a 12" bicycle for him which he took to like a 'hand takes to a glove'. Of course it has the side supporting wheels. So first evaluate if your son is ready for a bicycle if not go for a tricycle.

my daughter is 2 1/2 and she wants one also. her feet can't reach any of the bikes that i have "almost" bought for her. It is up to you but she loves her power wheels just as much right now.

A bike is a little much- try a big wheel and make a big deal to him about it.

My 3 year old son, can't even pedal or should I say won't even pedal his trike! Just play it safe...get a helmet, pads, and all the safety equipment you can buy! Keep an eye on him...and it should be fine!

A tricycle is more appropriate for that age... I have a son the same age and just learning to pedal and steer at the same time is challenging enough!!
