Dr. Jack Kevorkian is being released from prison and I was reading an article about the "victims" and it made me think. Now some of their family members did not agree with what Kevorkian did and others were VERY grateful. I personally feel like if someone is dying of an internal disease and suffering then they should have the right to die. I mean we do it to animals to be "humane" so whats so different when it comes to people. I know personally I would rather die then live my life in constant pain and agony just lying there with no hope for the future. I only agree with assisted suicide under the terms that someone is GOING to die for sure from a disease and this is done just to shorten their misery though (no mental cases need apply)!!! Anyways, what do you guys think? Right, wrong and why??

In some cases I believe that it could be an acceptable and humane alternative. We kill horses and pets for "humane" reasons...why not humans for "humane" reasons?

The difference is animals are not equal to humans. The death and suffering of a human is different. We can't just put people out of their miseries. There are many moral and ethical issues to weigh out.
Some might say that assisting someone with suicide is murder and as you say the person is going to die anyhow so why not help.
We do not have power over death. People kill each other and themselves everyday but it does not mean that they had some power over life.
There will be some who will say it's my life and I can do whatever I please with it.
In conclusion, I think this is wrong and should be reconsidered unless the person decided that that is what they wanted if such a situation is to occur.

No I don't accept the assisted suicide, even for animals...
I can't give my self the right to end someone lives... God only who decides for this...
There must be always a hope that might something great happened and the person get back to life again... we can not say that it is the end and the patient is going to die... Yes i respect the science and I believe in it. But I prefer to see my beloved people everyday, though they are in coma, rather than loosing them and not seeing them again. And who said they are suffering... also we can not be sure about this...

Peace

Yes it is right. I knew someone suffering from terminal cancer and the hospital could do nothing but supply enough drugs for the pain. That someone lived in limbo till his last breath. It was devastating and anyone like him has the human right to decide that the game is over and should not be forced to endure endless pain.

I don't know if I find Dr. Kevorkian a "role model" but he has the right idea.

I believe everyone has the right to live for it is then that you learn to appreciate life and the great things that make it. Think about it. in general the more time people have in this earth the more time they have to set things right in their family, religion, friends, personal belongings and relationship. love my friend over powers everything even pain. True people suffer, but the joy, love , the happiness of a simple person or event can make everything worth wile.

you see we are different than animals and are we are not dead until we die.

so I my self think this is wrong for everyone has a will to live and that should never be taken away from you.

God Bless

no. Natural death. Too many people will feel pressured into suicide and also if someone has Power of Attorney for an elderly person, and the person becomes unconscious that person can go ahead and kill the guy with assisted suicide even if the guy would not have wanted it just because the guy with the Power of Attorney might stand to gain something by it financially.. This is bad news I think.

Absolutely Agree, If you've ever lived in constant pain you would agree. Sometimes it's just best to let go!! I'm very glad that he is being released and believe that he should have never been sent to prison in the first place

I think we need to pass a law, saying that it is not illegal to do this...I was a RN and watched as many, many people suffered terrible pain...its just not right...We should have the right to decide if we want to die or not...We have more compassion for our animals..."lets put them to sleep because they are suffering so with Arthritis"...I have seen people in a coma for years, with no brain waves scream in pain...and I mean like 15 years...they curl into a fetal position,
and that is their life....if you could possibly call it a life.
It just makes NO sense to me...or will it ever..

I really am against suicide, although I do understand unbearable pain. I feel if someone is in intense pain and they want to,they should do it themselves. I think a Dr. is supposed to "first,do no harm". And,for sure,I WAS GOING TO DIE no later than last year, yet here I am,sick, but still able to see about myself. I'm just not a quitter

If a person is suffering and will die, and wants to, then they should be allowed to. It's their life and their choice. I may not agree with them, but a person should be allowed to do what they wish with their own life. I think it's selfish to keep a suffering person around just because their family can't let go.

Morality dictates that we fight suffering. We cannot rid ourselves of suffering because we can't, so we tolerate it occassionally, to a degree, but we do not tolerate it when, say, an animal is suffering. Why keep grandpa in pain when you would put his old dog down for the same pain?
