Unreal! I'd leave food out that a gerbil would eat, surely once he gets out of your toilet, he'll go elsewhere in your house. Gotta ask-is this YOUR gerbil that got loose, and how is he living in your toilet without gills? If this is for real, you can also go to your local animal control or pet store and get a "have a heart" trap, and catch that little critter!

put a cardboard box with gerbil food in it,on the floor of the bathroom.have a long piece of cardboard or wood lead up from the floor to the top of the box.keep bathroom door closed.the gerbil can smell the food.when it gets hungry,it will climb up the ramp and jump into the box.now u have him!!!!good luck.

How can a gerbil run in a toilet? Wouldn't that be swimming, in which case a fishnet would suffice.

Gerbils don't like to get wet/swim; if a gerbil really were in water and you put anything in there (like a wooden board) he would scramble right out.

I would go with the fishnet idea, or a strainer....but then I would make sure that I had the toilet seat down the next time it is in there.
