When Russell was away from me in Australia, my biggest fear was that something would happen to him and I'd never see him again. I'd ask him almost every night, "Promise you'll be careful. Promise you'll come home safe." He would always reassure me that he would be, and he would ask what could possibly happen to him. The only thing I could think of was that he might be hit by a car while walking to town.

When Russell died, he was walking well to the side of an old country road, with half a mile of empty country side in front of him and another half a mile behind him. The odds seem impossible that a sober driver would lose control of his car, swerve off the road, and hit him at 50 mph, when a moment earlier or a moment later Russell would have been safe and the car merely dinged up in a ditch.

Is it at all possible that my nightly worrying that Russell could get run over somehow caused him to get run over? It would break my heart if this was somehow my fault, but I need to know?

No, Aeryn;

As a Pagan, you know all about natural forces. You could have even felt this coming down the pike. But you did not cause it!

You did everything that you could to articulate what you were feeling. It also not that he didn't heed it, either. Something shifted in that moment, and for whatever reason; he shifted with it.

Use your ability to feel, to sense him around you. Pain and anguish make this hard, I know; but now is your time to make your practice count.

Make it count.

Don't let guilt grab a foothold, it will just block you. Stay open, my friend. It's interesting because right before he left us, you were shining bright. What was happening there? (or I just noticed that). Sometimes those are keys.

All out war with Europe and American choosing sides. That will be the end of our world as we now know it - and that will be a shame that mankind will allow this war to take place and for what reasons???? How could these people think that they are intelligent? There is no justification for such a war. All humanity can share in this world. After all, none of us was born outside of it. And there are those who wish to 'help' God fulfill their interpretation of Revelations. These people are elated by the recent escalations of hostilities - they will do anything to say 'I told you so'. I feel impotent that I can do nothing but express my feeble thoughts in forums like this one. I wish I had more voice!

I believe you are looking for the answer in the wrong place.

If you are a Christian, then you should pray and ask Him for some reassurance and piece of mind, maybe ask your pasture and other members of your congregation for support during your unfortunate situation.

You musn't believe that anything you said or did could cause what appears to be nothing more than an accident, hundreds of miles away. If there's anyone at fault, it isn't you.

I encourage you to celebrate the life that you shared and to cherish all of your memories.

Take care.

No, it is not possible to make something bad happen by worrying about it too much. It sounds as though you suffer from clinical anxiety and would benefit from some counseling.

It's not your fault. That said, worrying all the time could and probably affects you! and not for the good.
