Because we know that it is a human-wide epidemic.....that everyone is born with.
But the good news is: Christ atoned for our sins on the cross.....sin no longer has dominion over me.

I wouldn't say terrified, but we are aware of it because we understand the eternal consequence of sin. It IS a big deal to suffer in hell for all eternity because you didn't accept Jesus' free gifts of forgiveness and grace. It IS a big deal when your body rots away from the curse of sin. It may not be an immediate consequence, but don't be fooled, it will hit you at some point. There is no avoiding consequence.

I am not so sure that they are.
If sin means violation of prevailing mores, than I think most societies and cultures are terrified of sin. And the consequences of violating those mores can be very severe in non-Christian societies. Up to and including actual execution of death sentences.
Here in America, we can sin all we want, and no government per se is going to care (as long as the sin is not co-terminus with breaking statutory law).

We aren't terrified of sin, simply aware of how hurtful and troublesome it can be. God isn't waiting to throw a lightning bolt on a sinner. Instead, Heis trying to help save people from the grief that it brings. Sin isn't missing the bullseye/goal. It's aiming at the wrong target in the first place.

I think Leaping Lizard is on to something here but it doesn't pertain only to Christians.
A person who strives to gain Truth becomes more aware of it. As he nears Truth, which Christians believe to be a certain understanding of God, he becomes more aware of personal imperfection/sin. This is because Truth is perfect.
This person is humbled before Truth not terrified of it.
Yours, G.

I thought you were leaving us :)
I am not terrified of sin. I just TRY not to sin. I am a human and as long as I live I will never be perfect and will continue to make bad choices (sin). That's human life as we know it.

Probably because Christianity spends a lot of time and effort making sure the faithful are aware of sin. Whereas some other belief systems do not go to those lengths to scare their followers into behaving.

I query your use of the word "Terrified", in this context.
I would be more inclined to say, that they are more AWARE of SIN and of the difference between right and wrong.
Unfortunately, in todays world, many people seem not to understand the difference.

Why would a Christian be afraid of sin-we are free of sin by the grace of God and the blood of Jesus.

We are not terrified of Sin we simply realize what the penalty of Sin is if we do not have Christ. We Fear for your lives for we know that because of Sin if you do not have Christ you will spend eternity in hell an everlasting lake of fire.

I see sin as sin and that is something that makes me want to steer from it. I see it with different eyes from you I guess.
