Absolutely not, especially small breed dogs.

For example: Consider if you feed your 10 lb dog 1 slice of bacon. That is the nutritional equivalent of feeding a 100 lb person 1 whole lb of bacon. That is extremely unhealthy.

If you decide to give your dog food rewards, use a piece of their dry kibble and do your training practice right before their mealtime, so they are hungry and interested in the kibble as a treat. Or, go with a high quality dog treat using an animal based protein as the main ingredient : Chicken, Beef, Fish, Lamb...make sure it is the main ingredient in the treat, just like you should do for your dog's food.

No. Not, don't do it. First of all it creates bad behavior. Begging is one. All those suggestions that it won't create a begging dog if you put it in the dog's bowl just do not understand dog behavior. Dogs know where the food came from. They can see it, they can smell it. It will also make a picky eater. Why would your dog eat kibble if it knew that eventually it will get something yummy from the table? And lastly it upsets a dogs balanced nutrition as provided by commercial dog food. It can lead to all sorts of problems that might require a medical remedy. At the very least it will create an over weight dog. Stick to a food that you have selected and refrain from supplementing with table scraps.

Yes certain vegetables and meats. To put to rest the contraction on answers. Dogs, wolves, or their ancestors were not only meat eaters in the wild. They also consumed grasses and vegetables. How? When they killed and ate let's say a rabbit then they also consumed the nutrients of whatever that rabbit ate! If you check with any large well known breeding establishment you'll find they mix their own foods and will add vegetables to the dogs diet.

It's best to stick with a measured amount of good-quality dog food at a regular time each day. This will keep bowel movements regular and the dog won't be begging for table scraps. Some human foods are not really good for dogs.

An occasional treat after the humans have finished eating is OK but keep it minimal.

Some food is alright, some not. Salt, pepper and most other seasonings should not be given. Cooked bones are NEVER good because the splinter and could poke holes or cause blockage. Unseasoned vegetables, preferably raw, are good for them. So are raw fruits. Plain cooked, non greasy meat in small quantities.

When adding people food to their diet you need to back off on the dog food to compensate or you could get a fat dog.

It's called table food or people food for a reason. Dog food is called dog food because it contains necessary nutritional ingredients for the health of your dog. Better feed him dog food!

Only if you put it into their dish and don't give it to them from the table. That will only make your dog into an annoying dog that begs ever time you eat. Take care;^)

I really don't recommend it! High quality dog foods are nutritionally balanced for dogs...table food isn't. Also dogs are subject to getting pancreatitis, from eating things such as pork products. Furthermore, you're letting your dog think that what you eat is far better than what is in his bowl and you'll create a monster as far as begging goes. Also, with dry dog kibble, the crunchiness helps keep their teeth scraped free of tartar.

well, it depends a lot on what you feed them. I give mine carrots and apples as a treat now and then, those are fine for dogs. However, fatty foods can seriously damage their gall bladder, and other organs. My grandmothers dog ate bacon regularly and now can only be on a special diet which is very restricted, and she had to have surgery I think as well.
