I've basically gathered that any attempts to change a fundamentalist's mind about being one-sided and close-minded regarding perspectives of life is pointless. They have completely given their entire selves into a way of perspective or belief that strictly forbids them to stray. Straying would equal eternal punishment.

I'm amazed at the answers in here....people are purposefully not evolving their thoughts to see higher angles or views of life.....they have obtusely set their minds to their one religious view and will deny all else......how can people like this be put into powerful positions that are in control of what others with different articles of faith believe? It simply amazes me....

If you know that what you know is true, than where is the need to be "open-minded." I know that, if I drive at a high rate of speed on a wet street, the overwhelming odds are that I'm going to have a wreck and, quite possibly, injure or kill myself &/or others. By your logic, I should be open-minded enough to listen to others as they try to convince me that it would be alright to do that.

Read your question. You are the type of person you describe. You just happen to be a fundamentalist about "evolving thoughts" (whatever they are), seeing "higher angles and seeing "higher views of life". Define higher. Don't bother, higher is what you deem to be higher. Anyone who disagrees and happens to have religious faith, is a fundamentalist in your eyes. You are a bigot who likes to pretend you are open minded. You reject those who believe differently from you and criticize them and their beliefs.
Regarding putting these people into position of power, nobody just puts them there. We the people typically elect them. Based on what you have said, it is likely you would like to deprive people of faith of their right to vote. This way only people who think like you would be in charge. Now that sounds downright UN-American. So do you. Sorry YOU are so closed minded, bigoted and critical of others.

That's really no different than the atheists' minds. Ever try to change their mind?
Speaking as a Christian, I can tell you (and agree) that some of us seem to have abdicated the use of their brain. A one track mind, a cup that is already so full you can't get anything else in there.
We should all listen with open minds, but also with a discerning heart.

i have been tempted, yet i have purely done it once. On an plane, a fundy tried to proselytize at me. I instructed him that I worship Baal, the god of the Phoenicians contained in the former testomony. It worked -- he grew to develop into away with a at a loss for words expression and did not communicate to me back. yet modesty compels me to confess that the purely reason i become able to pull it off with a immediately face become because i become extraordinarily jet-lagged. i do not imagine i might want to do it lower than regularly occurring situations.

What do you mean by "fundamentalist?"

I belong to an undenominational church, with no board of directors, have the HG, believe in Jesus and God, Life or death.....

Guess I don't know what a fundamentalist is.

That's the gag, unfortunately.

You can't reason with people who are unreasonable.

They are unreasonable, and proud of it. If they were reasonable, they wouldn't be fundamentalists.

If a person wants the color black to be white, and the fact that what he WANTS is more important to him than what IS... then there is no point in debating the matter. You could prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that black is black, but they won't accept it.

And that's why my favorite phrase regarding them is...

"When an atheist finds the truth, he calls it happiness. When a theist finds happiness, he calls it the truth."

assuming you're not a religious bigot...consider the mindset of the true believer. myopic and so tied to their belief it is like breathing in and out. focused on eternal reward for believing and armed with a moral code that bleeds superiority. now...if you really think that can be removed with facts and figures, then your optimism is truly boundless.

I do stray at times but, I have my Lord and Savior to keep me. I belong to Him and I stay with Him because I love Him and He loves me. I am not afraid of eternal punishment. I have already been promised eternal life with Jesus.

I am here to learn and not argue. I am here to help anyone who needs help concerning understanding Jesus and His sacrifice.

I don't want to shake you or do anything harmful to you. I love you just as Jesus does. Peace.

yes, everyday, but one response i got when i pretty much won and said you have to start questioning your faith, is pretty much "i am never going to question my faith because i belive in it" and the like. it is not impossible though, but very rare to find a literalist who values knowledge as much as faith. The only time you can be succesful is with the ones who have not let their reason seep into their god box, so once you expose them to that reason, and thrust it upon them, they will change.
