Just wondering since I usually ride my bike, but I'm looking to get better cardiovascular endurance. So I want to know, bike or run?

Should alternate at gradually increasing paces in multiple actvities. Your heart will work the same, but the muscles get there own endurance from additionally developed arterial growth where there is higher oxygen demand.

Where you are strongest and most developed, your heart will work less hard.

And going as fast as you can will not develop much endurance. Top speed work is anerobic. Your heart is unable to supply enough oxygen. Max performace is about 6-10 seconds. Next level is about 45 seconds.

That is why the key to speed is strength. Build more muscle that can handle more oxygen for longer periods, you can go faster. But long endurance is never at your top speed.

They may dominate NHRA and that roundy round dirt stuff, but they cant manage to finish an AMA race, you know right, left, slow down, speed up, pass all the things a motorcycle should do. So if you need to make it Oooo say a 1/4 mile like from bar to bar the Harley is your bike. But if you want to ride something that will put a smile on your face and make your heart race, rap your legs around an R1. P.S. only two bikes in the world come with tassels on the bars, one is a little girls bike, can you guess what the other one is?

A combination is the most effective way. However, most people find it easier to build endurance and fitness by running, because they can push themselves hards. Most people don't like pushing themselves too hard for too long while biking, because they end up going too fast. In other words, people tend to just cruise on a bike.

While I prefer running to biking, the main thing to focus on is your "target" heart rate and set goals based on that. I believe the formula is "200 - (your age) = your maximum heart rate/per min. So if you're 20 years old, your max heart rate is 180 beats/min... then your TARGET heart rate is between 60-80% of the max = 108 - 144. Ultimately its what you like to do... if you prefer biking, just bike a little harder to keep your heart rate near 80% output. Also remember that jogging/running is a bit harder on the back/knees (high impact) than is biking. hope this helps...

cycling is good if you do it on stationary bike, running and jogging is good always. do it for more than 30min 4-6 times a week.
