Use of pesticides, for example, has seen the emergence of
insecticide-resistant mosquitoes.
Deliberate or accidental introduction of animals has a big impact. Cane toads, introduced into Australia to control a beetle pest in the 1930s, are spreading rapidly
through the country. Interestingly, they are themselves evolving: animals at the front of the invasion, those spreading fastest,
have longer legs than those towards the rear.
Cane toads are poisonous, but toad-eating Australian red-bellied black snakes have evolved resistance to their toxins (and are also less likely to eat them) in toad-infested areas.

Obviously you know nothing about evolution. Next, you will tell me you used to read 1 book, now you read 3 books. Moron.

Did you know that some of the tenets of evolutionary theory are not in any way contradictory to the Creationism, nor do they preclude its viability as an explanation for the origin of life?

As most evolutionists do, you're confusing the adaptation of animals to their environment, which do create new species, and which, by the way, should not cause a problem or conflict with theism, with the theory that life evolved from a big bowl of primordial soup.

While I do agree that simply using the word evolution is enough to get many Christians up in arms, I'd like to point out to you and them, that they're not the same thing.

It's obvious that evolution as you're describing is a fact but there is absolutley no verifiable evidence of the "soup" theory. How much do the scientists really know about the chain of events that they claim took place in order for life to just spontaneously happen? If they have enough knowedge to prove it, they should be able to recreate it. Until they are able to create life by the process they hold so dear, I'll continue to assume they know very little, if anything. That's why it's called the "theory" of evolution not the "fact".

Definitely, here is the evidence:

Many will recall that on July 8, 1947, witnesses claimed that an unidentified object with five aliens aboard crashed onto a sheep ranch just outside Roswell, New Mexico.

This is a well-known incident that many say has long been covered up by the U.S. Air Force and the US government.

However, what you may NOT know that in the month of March 1948, exactly nine months after that historic day, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Bill O'Reilly,
Condoleeza Rice, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Dan Quayle were all born.

See what happens when aliens breed with sheep?
This piece of information sure clears up a lot of things about evolution.

I know.. what about nylon eating bacteria? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nylon_eating_bacteria

Vampire finches of the Galapagos island?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_finch

Evolution has happened is happening and will continue to happen whether people believe in it or not.. its a fact.

PS to the person above concerning the domestic dog, they came from WOLVES my friend and are a subspecies of wolf... they have already changed considerably from their wild counterparts, being descended from a common ancestor of todays wolves. Already only after 15-100,000 years they have diverged by 0.02% mtDNA do you think that now they will stop changing? for some unfathomable reason you seem to think that change starts and then stops at a certain point BEFORE something transforms into an entirely new species.. well I have news for ya, the Domestic dog will continue to eveolve and diverge from its wild wolf ancestors until it is so far removed as to be considered a different species. It is the way of life, already Coyotes, and Wolves are considered a seperate species yet they differe genetically by only 4% and dogs, wolves and coyotes can interbreed and produce viable offspring.. however since they have changed so much already what evidence is there that these changes will suddenly stop? Wolves(including the subspecies domestic dog) and coyotes share a common ancestor yet they are a different species, they look, act, behave, eat and live differently.. they can only continue to diverge.. what other path is there to follow??
People who dont accept evolution are saying that something changes to a certain point and then stops.. where is the proof of that? If you can prove to me that change in a living being progresses to a certain point and then stops then maybe I will believe that evolution doesnt occur.. so far the facts are against you, everything on this earth changes and it never stops at a certain point just because we want it too.. change is constant. Prove to me that change is not constant, show me the invisible barrier that stops things from progressing past a certain point...

What are you calling evolution? God created everything in 6 days and then on the 7th He rested from creation (God doesn't get tired). Everything was set up to reproduce after it's own kind.......A rabbit doesn't give birth to a horse. A frog doesn't have butterfly eggs.

Each woman that is born, has eggs already inside her to eventually produce a human baby. The situations you are describing are genetic alterations.

It's true that new planets and stars are coming into being but, they were designed by God, in the beginning, to do just that. Others are disappearing also.

Yes, and I love watching it! You have provided great examples of evolution in action in modern times and there are hundreds of others to choose from!

I am a Christian and a strong advocate of evolution and natural selection.

I must say this was a great question. Hopefully all these efforts to educate fundamentalists (of any denomination or belief system) will one day finally open the worlds eyes to the truth of science. Science is God's tool kit. The Big Bang, evolution, physics, etc... are his tools.

Yes I do, being both a born again Christian and a professional biologist. There is no conflict between scientific truth (correctly understood) and biblical truth (correctly and authoritatively interpreted). Unfortunately most fundamentalist Christians come up short on both counts.

No such thing!

How do you know the Red-Bellied Black Snake WAS NOT resistant to poison from the beginning?

2007-05-31 14:42:20 · answer #9 · answered by johovan 1 · 2 1

Of course species change over time. Duh! But there aren't new species. Creationists don't believe that God created beagles and bassets and cocker spaniels and bloodhounds and on and on. We believe He created dogs. He also created within those species the ability to change within their environment - as in the case you've mentioned. It seems that evolutions have such trouble accepting the love of God that they feel they must try some way to prove He doesn't exist. That has been going on for thousands of years, and more and more scientists are finding evidence of His existence. you can find Him, too.
