If I know the person, I can usually tell because their tone changes too. Also if it is a question that they are lying about being caught at something.. they will become defensive. Loss of eye contact is a good one too, but that can be a natural way that someone talks also. Sometimes you can just see it in the eyes too.. when they get wider or all the sudden have a vacant look...
Good luck!!

Despite what is shown in movies, despite the beliefs of liberals, Darwinists, agnostics and unbelievers, there is NO SUCH thing. There is no such thing as "body language". Any body sign you can think of means one thing to one group/race/religion, etc. and something else to someone else. E.g., what we in the U.S. use for a sign of "O.K." south of the border means your posterior. A smile is supposed to mean "friendly" or "trustworthy" but is often used by the most cruel and sadistic persons.
Supposedly liars don't look a person in the eye; that is not so. Just consider used car sales men and politicians. IF you know an individual thoroughly, you might have a clue as to what signal that individual displays when lying. However, even here you will have a problem, because of the individual's morals, scruples, and even his definition of what is lying. (for instance, many people think that a white lie is not lying.)

eye contact, not staying still, a pause when their speaking, and I find that most people that lie talk way too much. If they are asked a question they will ramble and give an extended response because they feel like they need to give a good explanation or put on a good act so they are believable

Loss of eye contact is a dead give away. Or looking a little to your left or right as to seem like they are looking at you but not.

Yeah all of those are ways of showing that someone is lying. Also the puppy dog eyes and things like fidgeting, stumbling over words, or maybe even sweating. Be Safe, Be Smart..God Bless :)

There are a lot...

Shiftiness, talking faster than normal, taking time to answer questions, not meeting you eyes...

Most of all, are they acting different then normal?

Crossing of the arms, no eye contact, jittery. If they being defensive and show it by walking away, throwing their hands up in the air a lot, a lot of shouting, shifting the blame.

Number one thing is when they dont look at you straight in the eye, then they start mumbling and moving around, face gets red and blushes, get sweaty and try to change the subject or throw you off it.
