John F. Kennedy = Jack?
Edward M. Kennedy = Teddy?

OK, I know Jack is a nickname for John, although I can't fathom why. Usually nicknames are shorter like Dick for Richard or Bobby for Robert, or Bill for William. These make sense.

So why Jack for John or Teddy instead of Ed or Eddy.

I never did quite understand why they do that...
I agree that it makes sense only to that family!
It sure never did to me! And I've been asking this question
forever and I must admit that the only time it was so difficult
to get a satisfactory and sensible answer
was when I asked my mom who asked the priests how
or why a God of love would even think of burning anyone forever.
At least I did get to the bottom of that one.
It just isn't true... as the word "hell" in the bibles
comes from the words "Sheol" (Hebrew)
and "Hades" (Greek) and both mean the
common grave of mankind.
Then it made perfect sense to me when I read
that even Jesus went to "hell" for three days.
Common sense always prevails where truth is concerned,
except with John, Jack, Edward and Teddy!
