I think we value life more - because we know this is the only chance we have and we don't have an eternity to waste.
We know that if there is injustice in the world, we can't rely on a god to fix it. We have to take trouble in our own hands and work to change the world.
We know this planet is the only one we've got. It is our duty to not ruin it - not just for future generations, but for all life forms. We value life - a lot!

Here is a quick definition of spiritual that I looked up.
1 Of, relating to, consisting of, or having the nature of spirit; not tangible or material.
2 Of, concerned with, or affecting the soul.
3 Of, from, or relating to God; deific.
4 Of or belonging to a church or religion; sacred.
5 Relating to or having the nature of spirits or a spirit; supernatural.

I have never met an atheist who believed in souls, so that knocks out #2. Definitions #3, #4, #5 would explicitly go against the beliefs of an atheist. That definition #1 is a little odd. It could be interpretted in a couple of ways. However, I do not see an atheist having "the nature of spirit". That one is a pretty clumsy definition. However, the others definately do not apply to atheists.
Do you have another definition of spiritual that you thinks applies to atheists? If so, what is it?

None should be. An Atheist does not believe in any kind of 'spirit' therefore is is highly doubtful we could be spiritual.
There are people who claim to be spiritual Atheists. They are simply not Atheists at all.

I think Buddhists and Jains are atheist and non-theists. They believe in reincarnation, karma etc.. Atheism means one does not believe in a creator of the universe. This does not suggest an atheist can't be spiritual.

Spiritual doesn't necessarily mean the belief in the *holy spirit*....I consider myself spiritual....whenever I feel out of sorts I start looking inward for answers...I meditate several times a week, that is a great stress relief...leave it to the christians to try and define how we believe...just goes to show that many of them want to rule the world.....
