This isn't the first time. He eats frogs, lizards, and obviously roaches. Although it keeps the pest away, is it healthy for him to eat them? Also everytime I try to take them away he hisses, scratches me, and sometimes bites me.

Yes it is normal... it is a good source of protien for the cat as well. It will not hurt her, either. She is a hunter huh

There's no need 4 u 2 worry as all of my cats do exactly the same. They even loved 2 show it around d house that they caught something. It seems like catching a roach, a lizard, a frog, a bird, & even a snake brings a certain pride for cats as they r carnivore.
U can just take it like snacking 4 human beings. ;-)

My cat eats bugs of all sorts too including lizards. The vet said it would not hurt her. Try changing the cat's food inside to include grass formula, etc. And let it eat the bugs cause I bet like bringing you a "prize" the cat thinks it is doing its job.

I just wanted to share this information with you. I let my Persian outside with me one day, just to roam around in the yard a bit and get out of the house. He ate a lizard while we were outside so i took him back in. The next day I got a call at work that Bailey was almost dead. I rushed home and took him to the vet. he was foaming at the mouth, limp, eyes closed, i thought he was dead! The vet informed me there is a poisonous type lizard that can kill a cat. I just wanted to pass the info along!

It probably won't hurt him. They manage in the wild. Just make sure to offer him cat food daily. Otherwise, there really isn't a whole lot you can do to stop him from eating the pests. Ask his vet. But I don't think it is a problem.

Cats are natural hunters. He shouldn't eat them if he is well fed. He will continue to hunt them however. And maybe eat them anyway well fed or not. Could be he likes them. I have had cats in the past that hunted and would bring me the (eek) body. I think they are bragging or it's a gift. Once in a while it would be partly eaten. I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think it can hurt them unless one is diseased.

I probably can help you with taking them away. My sister, when my cat was kitten, always put her hand in the cat bowl and pet the cat for my cat wouldn't hiss, bite, and scratch while he's eating. Next time you might want to try that.
*Beware*
If you do this your cat might bother you to always pet him while he's eating. It happened to my family.

He'll be fine. Like someone else said, it's what he would do in the wild. My cat will catch and eat any little critter that gets into the apartment, and she's very well fed! Just be careful about toads-some of them will squirt some nasty stuff (urine??) in self-defense and it can cause allergic reactions.

the roaches wont hurt him it is in there nature to hunt and that is what he is doing. I would try and keep him away from lizards though they can give him an upset tummy .

Yeah for your cat. He is doing his job. Rather he eat the roach than have it infest your place! I'm sure there are some nutrients in bugs.
