I know there are religions that embrace complete pacifism. Is this belief based on a specific scripture in the Bible, or is it based mainly on Jesus' example of peace and living a non-violent life?

. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. (Romans)

I think 'turn the other cheek' is a verse that supports pacifism. The life of Jesus is another example, I'd agree with you there.

Two versions from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount..

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." (Matthew 5:38-42, NIV)

"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you." (Luke 6:27-31. NIV)

Sure. An easy one would be that Jesus instructs his followers to "turn the other cheek" when struck. He does not say to retaliate.

Also, when the guards come to take him to his death, he does not resist, but heals one of them instead.

He also says, "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you".

Hope this helps.

Look to the beatitudes:

"Blessed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called the children of God."
