Pay no attention to the above.

Yes, it works, as long as you still get the variety of food. Thats the way I eat. I weigh 115, never had a weight problem. A meal to me is about 300 calories. For example this AM I had oatmeal, yogurt and tomato juice. I had a piece of fruit, cheese, and bread for a snack. FOR ""lunch"" I had a large salad with about 2 oz of cubed ham, another serving of fruit, no cal dressing, and my glass of skim milk.

Could be at some time only 1 item would be my meal (I love loaded baked potato).

The idea of eating 6 small meals per day is a great one if you are trying to lose weight. The idea is that your body is in a state of always being a little hungry and not being overly filled at any point. This speeds up your metabolism. The general rule for quantity is about the amount of food that would fit in the palm of your hand. I have went to this for the last month and it has helped out quite a bit. Good Luck!

when you eat small meals - body gets enough energy when it needs it (body uses 50cal/hour just for basic functioning for people under 150lbs) and doesnt have any extra left to store in fat reserves also keeps blood sugar normal (there are not as much big drops and rises)
when you eat 3 big meals - your body get more energy than it needs and stores extra in fat reserves -also stretches out stomack and you feel hungry soon again.
small meals - if i have to consume 1800cal a day to lose weight - thats 300cal /meal (you can add or take off as needed) so i will have about 400cal breakfast since it will fuel me for the whole day (e.g. old fashioned oatmeal with egg whites and toped with avocado chunks) then i will have 200cal snack - whole wheat toast with organic peanut butter etc.
if you would have just 600cal meals - its too much, body doesnt need that much at once.
