After searching the Y!A archives and not finding this question, I decided to ask it. It is for my own understanding and curiosity. Please do not take offense as I am truly interested in your responses.

I am curious as to why there are so many atheists involved in the "Religion & Spirituality" section of Y!A. Why? I was always under the assumption that atheism was devoid of just that - religion and spirituality. Please explain this for me. Thank you for your time in seriously considering this question.

For all of you saying I didn't research this and that it has been asked many times before...
...after spending several hours (gak) looking at the more than 35,000 questions containing the word "atheist", I gave up and decided to ask the question for myself. I am sorry if you are annoyed, because I am being sincere and did not ask just to annoy or look smart or something.

Well Pam, I am here because I believe that I am more of an agnostic then anything else. I am trying to understand religion from all sides. I also would love to dig deeper and truly understand why both parties can't listen to each others views and respect them after all isn't one of the keys to being a good christian to respect and open your arms to everyone?

If you want a better description of my view look at my answer to "why is religion so scary". I think you will have a much better idea of where I am coming from.

Have a great day!

Well, first, you didn't look hard, the question is posted approximately every half hour. This is not the "praise and worship"forum. It is religion and spirituality. One can have an interest in religions and not partake of them. Much as one can love to watch a football game, yet not be an athlete.Look up atheism,it is a lack of belief in God. I do not think you will find ANY definition that defines an atheist by their interests.

DRINK!!!!

Come on now. You searched the archives and couldnt find a response to a question that we've managed to make a drinking game out of, as it is asked so often?? Get real....

As I have said numerous times - you people are trying to put your religion into the laws of this country. Ill stand and fight that wherever and whenever Im needed. Enlightening some of y9ou people on this site is a start....despite the fact that almost none of you will ever managed to obtain an understanding of science.... Call it my civic duty to protect myself and others from your religious hate.

This question has indeed been asked and answered a hundred times, this is the second time I have answered it today.

We come here because many believers ask questions about Atheists. Who else is but us are going to answer them?

We also have a viewpoint regarding religious beliefs and we have just as much right to voice it here as anyone else.

When religion stays in churches and homes and out of our government and schools, then we will stay out of religion.

I answered this one many times in the past, but here goes again. It's the R and S section where all of the Atheist bashing goes on. Many religious people feel that they should be free to make all sort of stupid remarks about Atheists, but be free of any rebuttal.
If there was a section for Atheists, and the Atheists continually ran believers into the mud with all kinds of misconceptions , would you come in to your defence ?

It's interesting to learn what other people think about issues from religion to life. You get such a wide spectrum of thought here, it's a form of edutainment. Also, as probably pointed out by now there are religious atheists such as Buddhists.

Me, I'm here to kill time during work, I've learned a lot, but originally I came here to question Christianity, and it turns out I was right about it.

You couldn't find that question? It's been asked more times than I can remember...

Anyway my reason is two fold:

1) To answer questions people have on what is atheism (and to a lesser extent why I am an athesit after being a christian)

2) To provide balance to some theists on here who think a magical sky wizard is in control of everyone's life (including mine)

You didn't look very hard did you.But as you asked nicely...
This forum is for the discussion of religion and spirituality not necessarily for the religious and spiritual.
We also have a great deal to say on these subjects as they affect our lives as well

Because atheism is the other side of religion. They are the 2 sides of the same coin. Atheist do not believe in god. It doesn't mean that atheist can not be spiritual.

HAHAHAHAHA, you never found this question asked before.
LMAO!!
Because its the Religion section, and its good for a laugh
And usually its because the questions are related to religion and spirituality.
If I ask a question in the computer section, do I need to be a computer to ask one?
So do I need to be religous to ask a question in the religous section?
also I like to try and deconvert some people. What a buzz it can be, to help someone become 'born again' atheist
