Looks like Fundie beliefs to me.
1. We don't need faith to be a great country. this country is based on diversity, and everyone believes something different.
2. Strong families can be made up of two moms, two dads, one dad, one mom, and they can teach respect and everything else just fine.
3. How about men AND women who teach their children, regardless of gender, to be respectful to everyone, to make a difference in this world, and to pursue what makes them happy, even if it doesn't fit into traditional gender roles?
4. The US was founded by a bunch of Deists, many of whom had a great disdain for Christianity and religion in general. Do some homework.

Ahem, i am fairly stunned and annoyed by your saying that those things are christain values. They are human values, all except the ones involving god. let me remind you that Confucious, who came well before christ, was the first to present the Golden Rule. He was not religious, as far as I know, being in China where "western" influence had never really gone, and if it had, it was even more remarkable because all the relgions back then were brutal.
Now, to answer your original question, "Fundies", as some have put it, simply means people who take the bible literally. So yes, many christians here are "fundies."
I, and many other people cannot stand it when the values you mentioned are soley tied to christainity, because they are not, they are tied to all of humanity.
Let me point out some of the major inconsitences in what you say, many christian conservative politicians support war and are against illegal immigration (kinda goes against the golen rule). maybe Jerry Fallwell and the other peopel on the 700 club for being so hateful of all tings liberal in this country, even to the point of declaring the god will punish us immensly. may i remind that divorce rates among atheists are among the lowest, with 21% vs jews with 30% and Protestants with 24% and Baptists with 29%.
Now, if you wanna talk christian principles, how about help the poor. if you look at it in this sense, communism seems to be much more christian than capiltalism. Capitalism is fueled by competition which makes less poor people get help. I am not a communist, but you have to admit, communism seems more chirstian that capitalsim (yes they both have democracy).

1. Your country was founded on the notion of secular government.
2. 'Do unto others' predates Christianity by thousands of years. Confucius said it, I believe. In any case, it's not an inherently religious concept, nor is accountability for one's actions.
3 (both of them). So women don't need to learn how to be hard-working and men don't need self-esteem? That's quite a gender stereotype you've got there.
4. Provide an example of how the US is more involved in 'doing the right thing' than any other Western nation. I dare you.
The Jews didn't exist at the beginning of time, even within your ridiculous mythology. As for contributing the most to society, you can't back that up and it would lend no validity to any of your points if you could.
In answer to your question, people think some Christians, such as yourself, are fundies because of your fundamentalist beliefs. Obviously.

Dear, you are a "fundie"... I will explain. Fundie refers to the very conservative right churchs that believe the Bible to be totally literal and without error, and deny any possibility of a scientific explanation for the beginnings of the world or life. It means fundamentalist.
There are Christians, such as myself and many others, here and in the real world who have a much more moderate or even liberal view, base our beliefs primarily on the teachings of and life of Jesus as the core (no we do not throw out every thing else).

1. So loving the country is as important for you as loving
God?
2. Life doesn't work like that everytime, if it did life would be a bore.
3. And if fathers don't teach their sons lifes important lessons the son is a failure?
4. So the daughter is a failure because she didn't get influenced properly?
I've had some pretty miserable experiences in my life but that hasn't killed me. And God, even though I do still believe in a god, didn't protect me. I thank God for my life but I don't rely on a god for protection. Anyone who sits around and relys on God to protect them are being stubborn, naive, and selfish.

Please dont lump me with you. In this regard.
Whatever values and theology you wish to teach your children is fine with me. What bothers me, as well as many others is when you try to legislate those values on myself and others.
How would you like it If I as an Orthodox Jew wanted to pass legislation banning the sale of pork in the United States?
In my view the consumption of pork is a biblical sin. As such to make this a more godly nation we should ban pork. The Muslims and the Hindus are also with me on this one.
How would that make you feel? That is exactly what you are doing when you demand that some people cannot get married because it offends your religious values.
Please believe whatever you want, that is what makes this country great. But dont think you ever have the right to impede on someones freedom just because you find it sinful.

I don't get the love for America, you are in two wars for no good reason. Face it the Taliban, and Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and it's very questionable that Osama did either. You're divorce rate is 60%, you have one of the highest jail populations, if not the highest, your country is going to crap, but yet 81% of it is Christian.
I'm sure Sweden and it's majority of atheists are much worse.

Not all Christians are fundies, just some of them. The fundies are the radical Bible-thumpers who do nothing but preach AT people. Most of the Christians here are nice normal people who happen to have a different faith than me.

Traditions, are fine, enjoy them. The Bible is wonderful, read it often. The USA is the best thing going, love it. Family is everything, build one.
But, I do wish all the evangelists would rethink the policy of sending out newly reborn Christians to preach.
