How should I react?

Okay, please don't judge me by this but my dad gets upset with me when i like people of a different race...he isn't racist or anything he just thinks its more healthy not to get involved with them in a relationship/sexual way. I mean, I am attracted to hispanic people and he just doesn't get it. I mean I like other people to, but this one really makes him mad. How do i react to what his wishes are. I don't understand why he gets so upset! Should I obey him? I mean, he is my dad after all. PLEASE HELP ME. I'm sick of being judged because of my interests.....i need advice!

Believe me, I love all guys, but why does this one make him so mad?

Yer parents...especially yer dad is never gonna like any boy who wants to steal his little girl away. And while he's yer dad, and you should respect him, in some cases you just gotta do what makes you happy, and forget about what everybody else thinks. Hope this helps!

My mother's the same way; she could never understand why I liked White guys. She'd get upset and sprew some stereotypical stuff about White people, but I always ignored it. She has since calmed down and doesn't really care.

Your father may be generalizing Hispanic people for some reason. You could try talking to him about that, about what exactly throws him off. I don't know about compromising... I don't think your father would threathen to toss a Hispanic person out of his house, but... don't bring anyone over?

Your education and maturity level should be far more important than what race of people you're peculiarly drawn to.

I feel he's thinking of your future children . If you should fall in love with the guy , have kids some day , mixed race kids are treated really bad . I've seen this happen . They don't know where they belong , Their to light , to dark & some times neither family will want any thing to do with them . It can really get bad .Little kids can suffure & grow up to be angry grownups

Your thinking of the here & now but what about later .
It's not racist to worry about your future or your future kids .
Do you want your kids to be happy all your lives , fun & games now for you could geperdise their lives & happyness forever ..
Think & think real hard before you ack .

Skin tone does NOT define a person's character and that's obviously something your father doesn't comprehend. It's understandable that you want to obey him, but in my opinion he is being completely unreasonable. Yes, he is your father, but it is YOU who should be making the decisions regarding who you want to date. I think you should tell your father that you love him for being concerned about you, but that he can't just judge a book by its cover. How can he get to know someone you like if he already has a preconceived notion about his nationality?

Well, maybe your dad is giving in to the stereotype of blacks and Hispanics. He might think that your crush is part of a gang or something like that. Or maybe he was bullied in school by other races, maybe he was mugged by another race. Or maybe he was just raised by someone who was. Girl you have to talk to your dad, even if you already have a milion times.

i know how you feel, i like indian girls, and i kept it from my parents for a year. my mom recently has been talking me into finding "american" girls, despite the fact that all people living on american soil are american. by the way what granny said about multirace being treated bad. thats the societys problem. there is no place people are born in. and hispanic culture is still western culture. and its your life, only you can choose who is best for you

He sounds racist to me if he gets so upset. I would just continue seeing the people that you are attracted to, it's your life.
