Ceiling and Wall Painting Prep...?

Question

I have spots of peeling paint of a 40 yr old ceiling - its not cracked at all ... How should I prep this for paint?

Also, I have a wall of paneling that has discolored over the years, should/can I paint/wallpaper or do something else with it?

if it is not cracked I wouldn't scrape it with a wire brush, I would scrape it gently and then sand it. Then use a good primer and you may want to use two coats of primer to seal it good. Sand it lightly in between coats of primer. don't use cheap paint, you will be sorry, as it doesn't last, cover well, or look good. Use a flat on the ceiling to hide any imperfections as any gloss shows everything. The paneling can be primed and painted but use TSP to clean it first. then paint away but it will take 1 primer and 2 coats to cover the paneling. Happy Painting. Scrape the ceiling and get as much off as you can. (or use a wire brush). I would primer before painting. As for the paneling, if you want to go cheap, just prime and paint that also. Be sure to wash the wall with hot soapy water and dry before painting though. If it's that old it may have smoke and dirt that will muck up the paint job. Good luck! :)

if u'r partitions have many grimy marks.. jst sparkling them different than that run u'r airborne dirt and dust floor mop over the wall to get any airborne dirt and dust or cobwebs that could have occurred. same w/ the ceiling... Then b/c it is rarely been painted, u'll desire a primer lst & additionally b/c of the colour u could use. IF it somewhat is a darker shade, primer tinted on the element to it is going to help the colour come out greater even. Then paint away. U could desire 2 coats returned finding on the colour chosen yet u could desire to b effective have exciting~

Remove all loose paint and smooth out with some drywall joint compound. Use a good primer and paint. Paneling moves with temperature changes. I would recommend painting it after proper cleaning and primer.
