Why do people like you continue to blame the United States for defending itself. Understand a defense system is needed more than ever before due to the potential for rogue factions to obtain missiles and warheads.
Putin is merely using this as an opportunity to increase Russia's capabilities. There's nothing like a good war or threat of war to ignite your economy. Fear also gives strong central governments more power and creates more dependency on those in power. Remember this is what Putin's group was trained to do. (KGB)
(no...this isn't the reason for the war in Iraq)

Putin just using big words to feel important and draw away from his problems at home. Remember that Russia's population is not only shrinking, but that at the current rate of shrinkage he'll have to reduce the size of Russian military. Almost no one cares what Russia says anymore, so Putin is trying to blow smoke so someone somewhere will pay attention.

Yes, it did by installing military bases in Eastern Europe (Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Chekhia), closer to Russia.
Fortunately, Putin selected several smart, cheap and effective answers. More to come...

He must mean a nuclear arms race, which wouldn't really matter because both sides already have more than enough to blow up the world several times.
As far as convensional weapons go, there is already an arms race among all those weapon makers.

Nobody wins an arms race, unless Grumman, Northrop, GE, General Dynamics, Boeing and Ratheon are in your stock portfolio. Looks like Cheney gets richer.. the rest of us suffer.

I don't think there really is a winner of an arms race. In all honesty what is there to truely win.

it could ok. Russia remains construction a nationalist identity and a solid conflict is a solid thank you to incite patriotism. It quite would not count no count if it somewhat is a chilly conflict or a conflict,

Putin has enough problems in his own backyard.
I pay about as much attention to what he says as I do to Bush.
Both need to go

You need to be "SOBER" to win anything. That's why we have nothing to fear from Russia.
