Does work and material things make us focus more on our survival consciousness instead of focusing on a higher consciousness? Can there be balance? Do the two mind sets convict with each other? Or does it just take self discipline to keep spiritualness full without being leaked by concentration on the material world.

The dominant culture is governmenatal and corporate, like it or not. Because the alternative cutures such as religion, have been so incompetent and unable to get into a dominant role. So what is needed is for people who are more conscious to infiltrate and raise the level of awareness in the dominant cultures. I see no other possibilty. They have all been tried for 10,000 years and all failed. All religions in general have failed because they are institutionalized thought for the most part, rather than living consciousness and spirit.

I believe our task here is to find that balance. In this time, the gurus aren't in caves, and the monks aren't in monasteries. If higher consciousness doesn't translate to harmony in daily life, then it's lopsided and just another form of illusion.

One of my favorite images of Buddha is a wisdom figure. In one hand, a sword cuts off samsara (mamon, focus on material pleasure), and the other hand protects against becoming swallowed up by nirvana...which can lead to callousness toward the needs of others. In Christian terms, they speak of "being so heavenly minded that you're no earthly good..."

The middle road, the path of wisdom, is compassion...using my ability to think on a higher level to think of how we can live together.

The two work hand in hand. We have to work for survival but part of our survival is learning to look outside ourselves. We are just a small part of this world and we only know a small part of this world. To survive we need to learn both survival consciousness and our higher consciousness.

Pretty much! Yes there can be a balance. "You get more of what you focus on." Takes a conscious effort and is a choice everyday to make it happen for yourself. Once you do, you want to nurture it and not go back to getting caught up in the world.

To fully embrace the spiritual, one must let go of the physical....one contradicts the other, we can't have both (in our hearts that is).
