Forget the touristy stuff. Presuming you're bar-legal... you're going to want to check out spots like Coyote Ugly on 1st Ave and east 9th. It's a crazy country bar with bar-dancing barmaids and a ton of energy.
In general you ought to spend at least half a day in the villiage.... get off the F or A train around West 4th Street and just get above ground and walk around.

If you want to do tourist stuff, there is the statue of liberty, empire state building, and times square. I love to sit in central park and just look around, take a nap, or explore. My favorite part of the city is there is always something going on no matter what time of year or time of day. Just walk around and ride the subway. just remember where your stop is for your hotel. Have FUN!

Mars 2112 is a cool restaurant just walking around the village for hours is very cool. i AM NOT A BIG FAN OF MID-TOWN.

If you are going to NYC you must go to Chinatown (around Mott & Canal St.)
If you are a zoo fan, go to The Bronx Zoo.
If your ancestors came to the USA through NYC, go to Ellis Island.
If you want a hot dog, you have to go to Nathan's at Coney Island.
