My boyfriend is very cheap. However, I've been trying to understand his situation since he supports himself 100%. He never buys me anything nor do I expect it but there is one thing he does that really bothers me. He always asks me to buy him clothes and says he'll pay me back but when i give him the receipt, he brushes it off. And recently, he bought 2 weeks worth of laundry to my apt for my maid to clean and I encouraged him to leave her some extra money since she doesn't charge much and she has other jobs she has to attend to. The funny thing is that he'll agree and even says that he should give her $15 more but when I told him to just put the money in the envelope for her, he blows up at me. It's not about the money but more the principle. I just want him to be a man of his words. If you say you are going to pay back, then pay back. If you don't intend to then don't say anything. we've been together for a year and now it's at a point where we should break up or resolve issues.

It only gets worse when you get married or co-habit. You will be supporting him because all of a sudden once you make that commitment he will either loose his job, or want to go back to school or quit because he just can't deal anymore. He already has you buying his clothes, paying for the meals and has other people in your life doing things for him as well. I would say that if you don't want to marry him or move in together run as fast as you can for the nearest exit otherwise you will be stuck with a sponge that will suck the life right out of you and you may miss the opportunity to meet and love a real man and not a boy disguised as a man looking for replacement mommy. Trust me, this has happened 3 times to me.

It's good that he supports himself but you shouldn't have to be buying him clothes. If he says something he should do it not blow up at you. After all you just telling him. Ask him to change and if he doesn't just leave him. I mean one day it could be something really serious that he doesn't stick to his word for.

If he is this way now, he will ALWAYS be this way. The biggest reason for marriage splits is money. So...do you want to be married to a man who never supports you and never even pays you back? Is this a frustration you'd want to spend years--decades--with? Probably not. I say dumpsville, population: Him.

Sorry to say but he sounds like a mooch. Leaving him is definitely not out of the question.

I would be done with him too. That is great that he supports himself but it sounds like he is a freeloader in every other aspect.

yes you should....think about if you guys were to get married....it would be even worse...why waist your time on someone who doesnt appreciate the fact that you support yourself as well...it's not even about the money...it's about him being a dumb ***
