although red wine is good for you it is rather fattening. I love my red wine but sometimes i notice if i drink too much i put weight on round my tummy.

Its hard to resist though, had a few glasses last night, might have a few tonight.

Stopping smoking can be one of the reasons you have put some weight on but red wine could be another too.Alchohol in any form is very fattening and as a lover of red wine i should know. You will gain some weight after stopping smoking as your habbit is taken over by the need to be doing something and maybee you have snacked more.Red wine can put the weight on too,it all depends on how much you are drinking.Give it time after a few months your body will have adjusted to your non smoking and if you still feel you are putting more weight on then cut out the wine for a few months too,you will then see who is the culprit!!!

It really depends on how much you drink. One glass of red wine is not fattening at all. Moderation is the key. It's good for you. It's high in antioxidants and it's known to kill the cholesterol, the bad fats in your body. If you think about the French, they eat a lot of fatty foods, but they always drink red wine with their meats. There are hardly any fat people in France. Red wine also protects your heart. I gave up smoking in 1991 and put on quite a bit of weight ...as I thought..the result of giving up! No such thing...I actually started eating more snacks and had not noticed.
I signed on at the gym and slowly built up a routine of excercise which eventually got me back on track and my body is now quite toned although my belly is still a little over what it should be......
Red wine...I am told by the nurse at my local GPs is good for me at the rate of a glass a day.......(I have half a tumbler full with my evening meal)....so I am actually much healthier now than I was in 1991......eat reasonably, drink reasonably....excercise well and look good.
Best wishes, Mike.

it is probably more of a result of your having quit smoking. While there isn't any fat in wine, red or white, it is empty calories. There is little to no nutritional value in wine. So if you over consume those calories, it gets stored in your body as fat if you do not burn them off somehow. The average 5 oz glass of wine is about 70 calories.

In general, red wine has a high caloric content. Port is even higher. White wines like savignon blanc or pino grigio have fewer calories. Hell, they're all fattening though. Doesn't mean I'm gonna stop drinking them!

it's because you stopped smoking...red wine is fattening but so is food...you only live once, enjoy it...exercise..this will help you loose weight and you can still drink your red wine...

all alcohol is fattening, but quitting smoking just adds on to that. consider visiting a nutritionist and they will help you with the weight gain. good luck!
