I never owned an SUV, but my co-worker does have a Chevy Tahoe that she bought new in 2004. After just 55,000 miles it required a $3000 transmission replacement. I think Chevy has longer warranties now, but still the gas mileage is killing her and its trade in value. Hyundai has a wide range of SUV's starting at $16K-$34K and engines from 140HP (2.0L) to 268 (3.8L). The mid-size Santa Fe is very nice, but man that Veracruz is such a beautiful vehicle for the price, you'd pay $10K more for a similar Acura/Infiniti.

I have an 06 Tucson. By far and away the best SUV I have ever owned. I would recommend that you get the V6 and not the four lunger. It will cruise happily all day long at 75MPH and will still give you 26-27 MPG. Also has the best warranty on the market. I'm in New England and it's great for winter driving and strong and stable in off road duty.

I've had a 2007 Veracruz Limited for a short period of time and love almost everything about it. When I took into consideration the amount of amenities for the money plus the warranty this vehicle suited my needs perfectly. Acadia is bigger, CX-9 is sportier and longer. Both were more expensive and I didn't want anything as large as those. I got a good deal and would recommend this vehicle to anyone thinking about it. Santa Fe was a real option, my parents bought one and are thrilled with it, but it's a tad small for my needs. Good luck with your search.

Hyundai has no longer proved its' self to be a worth motor vehicle organization yet they are on their way however the engines smoke too quickly and the transmissions are not large. My Aunt had one that began to disintegrate at 60,000 miles. Pecking order HONDA TOYOTA NISSAN Chevrolet Ford SUBARU Hyundai Suzuki KIA

I have a 2001 Tiburon (not a SUV) with 112,000 miles, and happy with the car except is is a tad small. Am think about a Tuscon for my next vehicle, they have they same engine and seem nice.
