I recently sent a graphic design company some examples of my work in order to hopefully get some work experience. I sent my examples in an Indesign file which after trying to shrink down the size but without losing the quality of the image I got the file down to 5MB. At first I thought that that seemed like a reasonable size but now I am wondering if it was too big and they might not bother looking at it. Does anyone know what a good size to send someone would be?

5 mb is too large. You need to keep attachments under 2 mb to get by most company's security policies.

As most people have been trained NOT to open attachments from strangers, it is unlikely that anyone would even look at the pictures.

You need to include them in a small format (3x5) within the body of the text (an inserted jpg) with a link to a website where they can see the whole picture full size if desired. That way they require no special software to see the smaller images, do not have to open, unattach, or click on anything to see them.

If they are interested, they will go to the website. That is where you get to really sell yourself in way that can not with a static picture attachment.

don't send if you don't have to. put on a website and let them download it, or just view the website.
