You're not choosing the best time to visit, unless heat and humidity do it for you - but you really shouldn't pass up a chance to visit New York - it is a fabulous city.
Whatever your interests you'll find them catered for - if shopping is your thing then you are in for a treat - you have the famous names like Macy's, Saks or Bloomingdales, the posh shops around 50 - 60 streets on 5th Avenue - Tiffany's (just right for a little pressie for your bride!), and a host of other names you'll have heard of, or the more individual shops down town in SoHo and Greenwich village.
If sightseeing is you thing, then you are spoilt for choice - the Statue of Liberty, The Empire State, The Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Central Park, South Street Seaport, The Intrepid, The Met, The Guggenheim, MOMA, The Frick, Wall Street and the Stock Exchange, Ground Zero, the Bronx Zoo, Brooklyn Bridge etc.
If eating is your thing, then you will find fabulous restaurants.
Performing art - well try Broadway - get cheap tickets from the half price ticket booths - or see if there are any concerts in Central Park.
You will have a ball!

Mid August is not a good time to be in NYC weather wise. However NYC is a wonderful place to be and well worth any visit. There is no place like in on earth, it's a special city full of energy and excitement. I would go even in August...

Hawaii is paradise and you are going to the best place for a honeymoon. Still the two locations are so different that you won't get anything in Hawaii that you can in NYC.

There are a lot more shops in New York City than there are in Hawaii, so you'll be able to purchase more things in NYC. Remember to declare them at customs when you arrive back in the UK otherwise you'll be breaking the law and could end up in prison. The British Government are entitled to the VAT on the purchases you have made. Which is really good and decent of them don't you think??

Have a good time.

I think you should do it, go to NYC for a few days. Theres plenty there that you wont get in Hawaii....architectural beauty like the Chrysler Building and Empire S.B....the Statue of Liberty....Broadway shows....the United Nations...Radio City Music Hall....New York pizza..

For shopping, theres shops on the upper west side of Manhattan around Broadway n' Amsterdam, and on Columbus one block over. Great area, has a neighborhood feel..

Go. You'll have a great time.

New York is well worth a visit, for so many reasons, but it will be horribly hot in August.

If you're just interested in shopping, I suppose you can get most of what you want in Hawaii, but New York is MUCH more than shopping.

New York is great. We went there two years ago and had a great time. There is so much to see and do. Even just riding the subways around town was fun trying to navigate our way around. By the time we left we were giving other newcomers advice on what train to take! We went in March so it was a little cold yet but August should be fine. Maybe a little hot, but its hot everywhere in August. Its defienty worth the trip. You wont regret it.

if you like big city life then its a definite must do as its a bustling metropolis. with so much to take in and do. it would be a good change of pace to hawaii and its got a larger range of shops. prices are reasonable with current exchange rate. if you get the time do romantic stuff like a broadway show and the rockerfeller centre ice skating and dinner and drinks at the rainbow rooms great views from the top at night and also the empire state is a definite. i did all this and more in january in the cold but it was still worth it.

New York is a great city and well worth a visit. There is plenty there shopping-wise, and much more besides. I've only been there once, but I'd give my right arm to be able to go back again!

manhattan city is my sought after place 2d to the coastline. The factors of interest and sounds are defiantly properly worth seeing. area of manhattan that makes it the perfect is that it somewhat is continuously transferring continuously changing and you never comprehend what you are going to work out. i've got taken buddies who've never been into the city and shown them around and enable them to work out what a brilliant place it somewhat is. not one among them has regretted their time in manhattan. If going into the city confident hit up the perfect areas like time sq., valuable park, Rockefeller center, and so on... yet continuously make time to discover and notice the city at the back of the city
