If I buy an airline ticket now at a special rate ,(to avoid a rise in prices ) and they say it's non-refundable, will they let me use the ticket if the flight had to be cancelled on the actual date of departure, due to a hurricane threat?
I am going with a group and the group does not know this answer. We are flying by Continental Airlines.

If the flight gets canceled, then you get a full credit to be used on another flight within a years time frame.

I actually had this happened to me because of a hurricane, and they re-booked me later in the year at no charge. Didn't even charge me more because the new ticket was priced higher than the old one.

Usually when you cancel a non-refundable ticket, they will give you credit but deduct about $50-100 from the purchase price. You will then have the balance as a credit to use within a year.

It's up to the airline how the ticket may be used. I had a client once who had to buy a new ticket to come home because they could not get her out of Mexico for 8 days. They would not refund the ticket or let her use it at a later date it had to be used 8 days later. I was shocked that the airline did this, but it really happened. They would not refund the fare or let her reuse the ticket. You should ALWAYS buy travel insurance. If she would have had it she would have had her money refunded to her. It's always better to be safe then sorry.

I am positive that if the flight was cancelled you could use it but they will probably dictate when you will have to use it.
