I think every cat has natural instincts but your right some use them more than others. You are along the right path with a rag doll or persian these breeds tend to be lazy so they will be easier to keep an eye on. Although siamese are incredibly intelligent (we have one ourselves) and you are almost guarnteed not for one to run away they are also very attention seeking so they will enjoy being arond you. Ours does not take much of an interest in hunting but it really depends on the cat. my advice is to visit the breeder before you buy one and pick one which appears to have the attitude you want. good luck.

All cats have the instinct to hunt. I read somewhere thought that if you have the cat spayed or neutured and it is fed well that it shouldn't want to roam out and about away from home. As for the killing the wildlife good luck. Some cats don't do the hunting to eat, some just do it to play with their prey.

I have a himalayan siamese mix male cat. He seems rather dim on the intelligence scale. All the other cats of his mix seem pretty stupid too, at least that I have seen.
He chases bugs. I haven't seen him try for anything else though. It may be because I raised him as a house cat his first 2-3 years and he didn't develop much of a hunting sense. I am betting if I let him be outside more he could eventually catch something bigger. But his fur is just so long and gorgeous that I don't want him ruining his mane with lawnage.

All cats have an urge to hunt. I would suggest getting a kitten (less than 6 months) from a shelter and training it to "walk" on a leash. I do this with my Munchkin. She gets to go out and no worries of leaving the yard while she's on the leash. Make sure you use a harness and not a collar. She even cries to get back in to use the litter box.

Ragdolls are great cats but there is no breed of cat that has no interest at all in hunting or jumping fences. Some individual cats have less interest, especially as they get older, but there is no guarantee.

Sorry, but even the most pampered Persian will kill something if given half a chance. That's just being a cat, "domestic" is just wistfull thinking. You don't own a cat, you just pay the bills. If you don't want bird bits on the back porch, stick with the dog.

Domestic cats don't hunt by instinct; their mothers teach them to hunt. I'm not sure about the will to wander, but most cats will not go farther than a 1 block radius, and are smart enough to avoid dogs and cars. I wouldn't suggest a Ragdoll as an out door cat, either.

Cats are descendants of predators, hunting is in their blood. Even well fed cats will continue to hunt. However some cats are more aggressive than others. If you don't like that sort of behavior get a dog.

My best advice to you is to not have a cat at all if you don't like the hunting instinct... it's sort of hard coded in their DNA to be hunters (they have to survive in the wild by hunting mice or whatever they can find). But to eliminate the possibility of losing your cat forever (should you decide to get one anyway) I would make sure he or she has a collar on with a tag containing their name and your phone number so people know who to return it to should it happen to get out.

Cats are highly predatory. Whether they be a wild cat or a domesticated cat. I call one of my cats the "bunny rabbit killer". He also likes to kill birds and bring them into the house. These are like presents for being a good human.
