I had an episode of AFIB (irregular heartbeat) 11 years ago. It was gone now but I guess being a bit more mature and the new stress in life has made me cautious and now I cant stop thinking about this. I had pannic attacks where I thought I was having a heart attack but it was just that (panic). Now I cant sleep right thinking or being too concern about the heartbeat or the regular pains that your body has on a daily basis. It's a nightmare to fall asleep. Last night only two hours. Medications? I've done them but I don't want to stay on them....

Hi,
Since I don't know your history, I can only tell you what works for me. I have had an irregular heart beat for over 30 yrs. I was offered medication by a Cardiologist, and I refused, stating that if it isn't life threatening, I'll pass on the drugs.
I know which foods and that Caffeine can trigger it. About two years ago, out of the blue, a person mentioned to me, that when it happens, I should hold my breath and press down, like having a BM, of which I don't press down. However, it does work. I think that certain foods with salicylic acids, such as
tomatoes, or grapes, and certain foods can trigger it. They may work as blood thinners. Sometimes if you drink too much water with a meal, it dilutes the Hydrochloric acid in the stomach, and reflux can cause similar symptoms. Also, over strenuous exercise can cause little micro-tears in the rib cage area around the heart.
Look pal, get a grip on your thoughts, and buck up. We all die, and as soon as you just let go of all the B.S. in your life, it will feel a lot smoother.
The heart is a muscle, and it needs at least a 20 min. work out every day. I'm not talking sex, find a good Cardio-workout system, and then you will feel more assured of your own abilities to conquer those whacked out Panic Attacks.. Also, certain drugs can cause them. Do a little research on your diet plan. Use the Yahoo search, and find out which foods can cause the problems. Don't over-think your body. That is exactly what the Pharmaceutical Companies want, so that you will ask your Doc. for drugs.
Be well, kick Butt, have fun.. Try Yoga, after you do your Cardio work out. Think about living, not dying. From the Womb to the Tomb. What a thought. eek

yes if you are anxious you might not be able to sleep. there are things that you can do to help you with this. have you considered seeing a therapist about this? you can also practice yoga and meditations which can help you relax. one other this is that you can write down the things that you are worried about it right before you go to sleep and that might help clear your mind. the one thing with meds it is ok to take them short term just so you can catch up on some sleep. being over tired does not help with the anxiety. try talking with someone which can help. i hope this helps a little. good luck!
