If you are the only one who believes something, you are "crazy." If you are a member of a large group who believes something, you are "religious." If the group is fairly small and new, it is a "cult." These are social norms which have been in place for a long time and are not likely to change anytime soon.

I have my own theories on human religion (I am not religious myself), on which I have written an essay. I will send you the essay in its entirety if you like.

The crazies took over centuries ago by force of arms. Secular society has largely disarmed them worldwide now, though. Only in America, and certain Arab societies are these theocracies still holding sway.

But regardless, once the crazies are out of office, the religious nuts (which will be very few in number) will go where they belong... into the nuthouse.

It doesn't. I view it as it's public policy to admit you have an imaginary friend. As long as any person is not a threat to him/herself or others, then no one is locked away.
I'm not sure what happens to a severely mental patient who is not a threat, though. For instance, if some woman believed she was Marilyn Monroe. Maybe they'd lock them up 'in case'.
There are actually 'Christian psychiatrists' Talk about the blind leading the blind :-)

Because talking to the Gods and hearing voices are two completely different things.
You do a diservice to people who are truly mentally ill with questions like these.

IMPure religion & insanity: Law & Odor: Smell it: Pew!
Pure religion & sound mind reasoning: Understanding!
Plato: no ordinance or law is mighier than understanding.
Solomon: with all thy getting, get understanding = "grace"

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Same reason we don't send people to mental ward who "ACTUALLY" believe they are talking with their friends/ grandparents/ etc. 3,000 miles away through a small metal and plastic device that sends signals through the air...... hmmm....

Of course you believe in cell phones, you use them all the time! Just like how I pray to God all the time. It's real. You might as well face it!

The only difference is the amount of people, since so many people believe in sky daddy, it's become acceptable.
