There sometimes ARE questions and comments from folks currently there; but most people, if they have any kind of internet access at all, have to wait in line just to get onto a computer for 10-15 minutes; longer if they're lucky. They use that time to communicate with people back home and rarely have the luxury to try and explain what's actually going on there to idiots back home who refuse to believe them anyway. There are those of us who have been there before and are back now, but those same people refuse to listen to us, either... they don't seem to like having their ideas and tenets challenged, when confronted with the truth, and the experiences of those who've been there conflicting with the rubbish on TV. If folks downrange do have any extra time online beyond emailing or instant messaging loved ones back home, they usually use that extra time in good ol' fashioned escapism, to get their minds off of Iraq for a while: MySpace, HotOrNot, international news, websites about cars, sports (or clothes and pop culture, for some of the girls)... things of that sort. Escapism like that, when you're lucky enough to get the time for it, goes a long way to helping morale.

I have noticed several questions that I am sure were posted by deployed folks. There are some pretty strict security regulations for computer and telephone use in Iraq, so most soldiers will not mentioned there deployment in any kind of open forum.

In some places there are computer centers. My boyfriend just returned from his 4th deployment there.
Probably the reason you don't see comments from anyone over there is, they are limited to usually 20 minutes at a time online if the center is busy, and most of them use that time to check and send emails to loved ones, or to use messenger to chat. They probably prefer using what little time they have online doing that then leaving Y!A comments.

yes there are people from Iraq on this thing but most are just antiwar protesters acting as Iraqis or media jihad. search hard enough you will find an honest Iraq citizen, try soccer/football they LOVE THAT SPORT! don't really know why but they are crazy about it.

Sometimes there is. But it all depends on the COMSEC/OPSEC(Communication Security/Operational Security) measures each unit is using. Some are more lax, and some are really strict as to what GI's can do on the internet while deployed

Computers require electricity and a working phone line or other connection to the internet.
Edit: Ah, this was asked in the military section. My answer was more about Iraqis being on here, not our servicemen and women.

one, how do you know that? and two: official gov't computers are firewalled and open source sites such as yahoo are blocked. Three; most people with laptops and internet access are using them to contact family and friends, not trolling the answers page.

Some soldiers have their own laptops, others use the public computers. Personally, I hope my husband isn't wasting his time answering questions on here...I'd rather have him use that time to email me, his family, or friends so we know he's OK.
