My husband is restaining our kitchen cabinets. After he got finished with the stain and it was dry, he started putting on a coat of clear polyurethane, and after giving a couple of doors a coat of it, he noticed that they were turning a milky white. If anyone could please tell us why, we would really appreciate it. Thank You! Msbb45

It sounds like the Poly soaked up moisture from either the wood in the doors or stain. You normally see this when a hot container is set on a table surface. The moisture is sucked up into the clear coat.

It's because polyurethane is an organic material noted for high abrasion, ozone, corona and radiation characteristics.

Try clear lacquer instead.
