I ask them questions and they get all bent out of shape and start threatening me with the wrath of their savior. Why can't they just peacefully disagree? I've been promised bad things will happen to me several times today by the followers of Jesus, wasn't he supposed to be part of an all-knowing, all-loving god or something like that? Is this what christian love is all about?

I am very sorry.

True christians should not do such things. I am a very strong christian and find it a shame that people of my religeon think that way. I agree to disagree about who is the true god although in my mind I hope that someday you will come to belive in Jesus.

God Bless and I hope you are saved!

I'm an Atheist so coming to the aid of a Christian is a bit out of character for me but I do have to comment on this.

You are painting a large group of people with a very wide brush. Consider who will respond to a question on this site. Then consider the flavor of the question you ask. When someone is backed into a corner they typically will fight. Some Christians feel like they are being forced into a corner when their religion (not their faith) is challenged.

I think most Christians realize subconsciously that it is impossible to defend their beliefs when faced with logical reasoning. If they could just understand that on a conscious level they would stop rising to the bait every time someone drops a line in the water. Their whole religious existence is based on a faith. No reasoning, just faith and while I question that, they don't and that's OK by me. All I ask is they don't ring my doorbell and try to convert me, especially when I am trying to do something more important than listen what someone else believes. And more important could be watching reruns of "Mr ED" or "My Mother the Car".

I don't know what questions you asked today, so I can not give a definative answer about why you were attacked. If your questions were the rude or insulting questions that are frequently asked by people on this site trying to offend Christians, then all I can tell you is that we are human, our feelings do get hurt, and we sometimes have trouble not responding in kind. If you were asking sencere questions that were not intended to offend anyone, then I am suprized that you found the responses offensive. As for being threatened with the wrath of God, well we do genuinely believe that if you are not a Christian you will end up in Hell. There is no soft kind hearted way of saying that. I have non-Christian friends who I think are wonderful kind hearted people, but I still believe that they are going to Hell if they don't change their beliefs. I don't go around telling them this unless they ask, but that is what we believe.

I am sorry you have been treated like that today. It isn't anyone's place to judge your salvation because they cannot see how the rest of your life will pan out; nothing is set in stone except that Jesus will return. God is all-loving, and he loves you, but he will punish you if you do not accept Jesus as atonement for your sins. Think of it this way...did your father punish you when you were a child? Did it mean he loved you any less? No, he did it because you were making the wrong choices. Likewise if you continue on the road you're on the same will happen to you. I can peacefully disagree...the Bible says to tell the world about the love of Jesus...which I do, if you choose to reject that it is on you not me...it is when people ask questions that are rude and hateful that I get upset and bite back.

Its not just Christians. Everyone that is leaning a little to the fundamental side will tell you that you will be punished and punished severely for not following exactly what they say and / or believe.

Its sad, but there really isnt much tolerance, or "live and let live" anymore. People turn it into a competition and ironically end up guilty of the sin of Pride. They have to walk away feeling superior, to make up for their own shortcomings...

Jebus would smite us all down if he would see all this crap. Not to mention that the President says that God tells him to do things, including going to war. In the psychiatric world, they like to call that insanity...

Because their God will forgive them of anything they do. There is no accountability. As an Atheist, I argue that my beliefs make me a much more moral person than someone who believes in a forgiving god. I have to live with every bad decision I make and therefore am more careful in my choices. Christians (and others) have the opportunity to "wash away" their sins and so consequently, have an escape hatch of sorts to relieve them of the psycological burden of doing bad things. Remember "Tookie" Williams? He was the founder of one of the most brutal L.A. gangs. He went to prision and was sentenced to die for a murder even though he very likely committed dozens and was the mastermind of hundreds. About a year before he was executed he got religion. He began a death row prision ministry and became a preacher of sorts. There was a terriffic media frenzy when he was finally executed due to the fact that many people (Christians) believed that since he had asked God for forgiveness for his crimes that we should also forgive him. Thankfully, the State of California doesn't govern itself based on the bible and so he was executed...right on time.

Why are you generalizing all Christians based on the actions of a few? I am a Christian and I am not full of hate and disdain for my fellow man. Sorrow and heartache for some, yes - but I don't hate anybody, regardless of their views or beliefs. They are entitled to their beliefs just like I am entitled to mine, and I try to respect that because I appreciate it when people who disagree with MY beliefs show ME respect in spite of the difference of opinion.

1 Corinthians 13 is what love is all about; sadly, there ARE a lot of Christians who don't understand that we have to CHOOSE to practice the behaviors that love is made up of.

Please, please, don't lump all Christians in to one group.
There are so many different denominations, you know?
But none of these Christians should ever react the way you said. Even if you asked your questions in a negative provoking way.

Yes, He is all knowing. He is all loving. That is what Christian love is supposed to be all about.

And most christians I know try their best to treat people how they would like to be treated.
Perfect? NO.
Human? YES.

You can try to be Christ-like, but noone on this earth right now is like Christ.

I'm sorry you had bad experiences with certain christians or denominations.

God Bless ;)

If the attitude of the "Christians" are full of hatred and pride, just know that they are not true Christians(Feel free to give them a piece of your mind)
Tell them to read Mathew 7 and Luke 6:35.
As a CHRISTAN, I try not to judge, be patient and never have a stiff neck(pride).
Do not worry, not all Christians are like that, find the ones that are true in nature.

If you want answers, read the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

I have never threatened you or gotten angry at you and I am a Christian. I have no room for Hate of anyone.

Why do you generalize so much? Do you feel a need to?

Is that what Atheist Love, Tolerance and Acceptance is all about?

Peace!
