Mmm, that's a toughie and I think there's no real answer to that. I think it depends largely on the person in question - some people are ready earlier than others. I think what's important is that someone has the maturity to make the decision without peer pressure, to fit in or to "get it over with". It's sad that so many kids have sex so early these days when they really don't have the maturity to make a sensible decision about it. Personally, I think that if you're not old or responsible enough to drink, you're not old or responsible enough to have sex. I think it should all be leveled at age 18 - arguably, for most people that means the end of high school, after which they either go to college or start working.

The most common legal age for sexual activity is 16. This age is defined in federal law, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, about half the United States and about half the countries of the world.

This age is a fairly modern invention. People become capable of sex and reproduction at a much younger age and it was common for younger people to have sex in different periods of history - and indeed, in reality kids are having sex much younger these days.

The laws are in place to create controls over the behaviour of juveniles and to "protect" them, although there is some debate as to whether they need protection or whether such laws actually do any good.

Other attempts to control the sexual activity of juveniles, such as abstinence programs, have been proven ineffictive. Those who pledge abstinance have as much sex or more than those who do not.

The appropriate age for sex is when the individual is mature enough to engage in it safely, intelligently and with the maturity to accept the consequences if things do not turn out as expected.

It's different with every person, but I would say that any younger than 16 is probably too young.

Different people mature at different rates. There are some very mature 16 year olds, and there are some very immature 22 year olds. Sex is a very, very adult thing, because there is so much that goes along with it.

Sure, there's the risk of pregnancy and of disease, including AIDS. That's extremely serious. An person who is not fully mature, however, will discount these as things that happen to other people. But let's not forget damage to reputations, emotional trauma that can come from a sexual relationship that ends badly, or legal issues if an underage person is sexually active with a person over age 18.

In some states in the US statutory rape (a person over 18 being sexually involved with a legal minor) is a sex crime, and the offender is labeled a sex offender for the rest of his/her life. They are required to register as a sex offender wherever they go, and at every job. They can’t live near schools. They can’t live too close to parks. They can be denied rights. They can be denied custody of their children should they divorce years later.

The social and emotional impacts of sex are many and serious. They can follow you for the rest of your life. Pregnancy and disease are serious, but they’re not the only concerns.

Wait. Allow yourself to be young. Allow yourself to grow up before you rush out to act like a grown up.

There is no "appropriate" age for sex but 18 is considered an adult and being able to make your own choices. I would just say that if you feel you are ready then you will know. If not then wait. Sex is for pro creation anyway. If you are not ready to have children then I would be very careful on even having sex. Mistakes happen just make sure you are protected and that it is with someone you care about.

I dont think you can put an age on this, honeslty I think it has a lot to do with being emotionally stable, that could take YEARS for some people.. I personally was not ready until I was 19 and even then I should have waited, I think it would depend on the person and not so much the age...

When you become a responsible adult that is ready to face new challenges and don't need mom and dad to help you out if you get into some sort of trouble.

And only after you're done with school, and if you are ready to support yourself and take care of your health all on your own.

18? 25? 50? for you, lets just wait til you're 95 just to be on the safe side. Take care and don't do anything you're gonna regret later!

Generally speaking, over 18. Unless the person has a developmental delay, disability or something.

If you are over 18 and don't want sex, then don't engage in sex. Sex is NOT A HAVE TO.
