For all that think humans and animals are one in the same. Are you all vegetarians? I believe in treating all living things with respect. . .heck, I get my pets from the shelter, but I do eat meat. . .have you seen the chicken farms?

My point...not that I really have one. . .I want to know if humans and animals are of equal value. . .why do we eat animals?

I honestly do not see how this is confusing. If animals and humans are of equal value why do we eat animals. . .we do not eat other humans. . . or most of us don't:) I can't seem to ask a question w/o people thinking more of it than what it really is. I am honestly just curious, but I see not to many people are even going to answer. .. I do find that interesting and probably answers my question more than anything else. :)

Ah, it is a tough question.

I've been slowly turning to being a vegetarian, not by choice, but because I've been losing my taste for meat.

A veggie panther. Go fig.

Went over this same ground in my ethics class a few terms ago. I thought then and I think now that animals should be treated well. But, the simple fact is that humans must have meat to remain healthy. You can limit your meat intake and you can only choose certain animals to eat. The thing that I can not get around is that we are all animals. We evovled from lower life forms into our present state. If you watch the animal kingdom itself you never see the lion , tiger , or bear concerned with the feelings of their food. We are part of the food chain like it or not and because of that fact we must consume the flesh of other animals. It is their lot to be under us on the food chain and therefore they are our food.
I have also wondered about the vegans. They say they do not like to eat meat because of the killing of animals blah....blah....blah. I wonder if they consider that when they eat vegtables those were once living things that had to be killed in order to be put onto their plates. Since animals have feelings( supposidly) and people play music to and talk to their plants and this help with growth does that not also mean that plants have feelings and we should not kill them for food.
I guess if all the vegans thought of plants this way in short order the rest of the world would be left with more food all the way around.

I don't think humans and animals are the same. No two people are even the same. I do think a lot of animals are intelligent and should be treated humanely. However, I am a big hypocrite because I love a big juicy steak or a greasy hamburger.

Human and animal are not of equal value but, as a human being which is more superior we should respect all living things.

We didn't eat other human but some of us do kill, torture, manipulate and treat others badly. Human do have animal instinct.

I like my spot on the food chain. Of course it means I avoid tiger sharks and polar bears.

I grew up in farm country. We respected animals. We treated them well. We never ever abused or miss treated them. We ate them. It all works so well, especially from my point of view.

That doesn't prove any kind of correlation. Other animals eat animals as well. Does that prove they're not animals? Of course not. My cat caught a rabbit, but he's still an animal.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question...

I'm writing to thank you for your answer to my question since you don't accept email : ). I asked how we can know whether or not it's God or our own ideas that are "speaking" to us (I recently went off anti-depressants). Your answer was the kindest, most soothing and loving of them all (a sign of a true Christian). Every time I have talked to my dr about going off the meds, she has ended up increasing them or changing them to a different kind. She's also on several kinds of meds and evidently firmly believes in them. Please pray for me to be able to switch drs and someday go off of Paxil. It's causing me to have symptoms like M.S. and all I want to do is sleep my life away. I'm very lethargic (spelling?) and numb, clumsy and slow...I hate the way I feel. Please pray for me to figure this out inspite of my confusion. Love, Daisy

I understand.

If we came from animals, then why are we eating our ancestors. Who knows, we could have just eaten a future Uncle!
