Now the father does want to help with the baby, wants to be on the birth certificate and everything. Medicaid has paid for my pregnancy medical costs and baby care until now. We are concerned that if they find out that the father changed his mind and wants to help, they will back bill him for all the expenses. What should we do?

Don't ever worry about the father having to pay anything back and you just said he doesn't want to help with the baby why would you even care?Get on medicaid you are eligible for it and it is important that you and your baby make every doctor appointment don't worry about the baby dad he is obligated to pay just like anyone else.

The choice is yours and the father's. If he wants to be legally involved as the father of the child, he can expect to be held legally and financially responsible for fathering said child.

You do not state by which means you gained Medicaid assistance, but if you made any false statements as to knowledge of who fathered the child, YOU are committing Medicaid fraud. Bear in mind that his desires to be involved or NOT involved do NOT relieve him of financial responsibility in this situation.

Boy, you really picked a winner there, didn't you.

How about trying something new, doing the right thing?

Have the father help just as much as he is able. Get married to him. Let the Medicaid chips fall where they may.

Assuming you guys aren't married, and you've got your health insurance through Medicaid (not medicare, as that's usually for disabled and retired people) and your state children's health program, it's not going to affect anything at all.

Why not just let medicare pay for it?
That's what i am doing. As long as you two aren't married it doesn't matter. Or if your married if you have low income they will still pay for it.
