I am an avid coffee drinker and in my 48 yrs of life have never heard of such a thing. Has other coffee drinkers done this?

I'm sorry if I sound locked up in a box. I love coffee but don't really go to coffee shops. The prices are WAY out of my league.

I'm certianly NOT trying to be rude but where are you from?
In the north east iced coffee is everywhere. I'm from Rhode Island and we can't go a day in the summer without drinkng at least five to ten cups of the stuff.

Here's a tip: Brew your coffe the way you normally would. Add milk, sugar..whatever. Place it in the fridge overnight. The next day pour some into a glass and add ice.

Adding ice to hot coffe or trying t make iced coffee while it's hot will dilute the coffee flavor and it won't stay as cold.

Of course! It's a common practice in coffee shops around the U.S. Iced coffee is usually at its best when it is "cold brewed" but that would require buying a special brewing system.

If you're interested in trying it at home, you can pour hot coffee over ice, just be wary about using a glass cup - it can break with or without the ice in it. If all you have are glass cups, put a metal spoon in the cup before you pour the coffee. If you're feeling truly hedonistic, add a little cream and chocolate syrup.

Although some people swear by it, I don't find iced coffee quite as refreshing as iced tea; I'm a southerner - what can I say? I also tend to drink it way too fast. Don't be afraid to give it a shot though - you may love it.

I drink coffee every day I have only 27 years on the stuff but I would happly say i have pored my coffee over ice and not a good idea. I would recomend poring the coffee after it is made in the pot to let it cool a bit and add cream and sugar and maybe a bit of vanila and ice into a blender and wala much better and cool for the summer. Not every day though I like hot coffee in the morning summer or not. Just and idea though.

As others have mentioned it's called iced coffee. If you choose to make it you need to brew it double strength to allow for the dilution by the ice.Basically handle it the same way you would iced tea .
There is also a really neat variant called Vietnamese coffee which requires some inexpensive equipment but produces some great results-Google Vietnamese coffee

i ALWAYS do that in the summer.

i either brew a pot of coffee and refrigerate the whole thing (if you pour hot coffee over ice it will be really watery)

OR

i just invested 30 dollars in a toddy cold press coffee system and it is worth EVERY penny!

basically, it's the same idea as making sun tea- you make coffee without heating the water- it cuts the acid and makes a gorgeous coffee concentrate that you just add water to and-presto-lovely cold coffee.

it's SO nice and refreshing when it's hot out! i take a water bottle of it to work and enjoy cold coffee all day. yum!

It's best to do it in a blender, just because the coffee often melts the ice too fast. I like to add my cream and sugar, as well as chocolate chips and a little vanilla extract. It tastes like a Java Chip iced coffee drink from Starbucks.

yes, it has been very popular since coffee houses like starbucks have come into the world. Plus, why would you want piping hot coffee when it is like 100 degress outside?

i like my iced coffee with cream and sugar. and if you think of it, make coffee ice cubes with extra coffee and store in freezer, that way when the ice melts it won't water down the iced coffee.

Iced Coffee is great!!!! I prefer flavored, creamed and sweetened... Great if you want the taste and flavor but aren't into a hot beverage in the hot weather... Also if you ever go to Starbuck's and order an iced venti drink you get a third shot of espresso without the added cost of an extra shot...
