Use Craig's List to try to find someone looking for a roommate. In Manhattan, you should be able to find something in the UES, the eastern part of the E. Village, and possibly a couple other areas. You could also check out Brooklyn (i.e. Greenpoint, Park Slope) or Queens (astoria is a good neighborhood). Know that if you use craig's list the best time to start looking is about 1 month in advance.

Yeah, sorry, but tv makes it look like a person can afford a large loft syle apartment in a trendy and afford it on a bartenders salary. 700-900 really isnt that reasonable in NYC. You may find a really small studio somewhere in an iffy neighborhood.

I would recommend using craigslist to try and find a roommate. That way you could split a 1 bedroom for that much.

To get nice space for 700-900, you're probably going to want to get a roommate.

It's pretty rare to find anything nice that cheaply, except for the occaisional studio apartment, and a lot of those are going for $1000 a month now.

Unless you want to live in a lousy neighborhood.

Also, forget living in manhattan. Brooklyn's the way to go. It's a great boro. I've been here all my life.

Sorry to say but that isn't "reasonalble" for NYC. You might be lucky to find a really small place in a bad area for $1000, but you should expect to pay between $1,500 to $2,500 depending on the part of the city. Of course even at those rates we are not talking a big rental, just a small one.
