To date I have won about 100 million dollars!!! HA!

But for every email that says I won the lotto - I looked it up on Snopes (the urban legend website) and DANG, there it was! Sheesh. I guess I better buy a ticket.

To find out if you have a scam (you almost assuredly do), go to Snopes, in the search box enter keywords related to your email - the subject line typically works, or the name of the outfit giving the money away. You will typically find the exact copy of your email right there on the site.

And, by the way, NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE STRANGERS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION OR ONE RED CENT UNTIL YOU HAVE THOROUGHLY CHECKED THEM OUT AND MET THEM IN PERSON.

Lottos are classic phishing maneuvers.

You can read about these scams at Hoaxbusters.com.
The lottery info is at http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org/HBScams.shtml#lottery

Hoaxbusters is run by the CIAC (Computer Incident Advisory Capability). They work for the US dept. of Energy and provide info and response to computer viruses, spam, etc...

Before falling for any email offers.. check them out there. If it sounds to good to be true, IT IS!!!
