the bible states that prayer should be done in private. also, these people who keep posting long prayers in here are in violation of YA and are breaking rules. do they think the rules don't apply to them?

You are absolutley correct. The Bible tells us to pray in private. Although, as a side note, Jesus said this to rebuke the ones who make a big show of it. So, it may have a lot to do with the reason a person chooses to pray out loud.

I choose to take the entire chapter of Matthew 6 literally. I never pray out loud unless I'm alone (nor would I post a prayer online), I don't tell anyone about the things I do for others (alms), I don't seek earthly riches and I say the "Lord's Prayer" every night.

Actually, I'm violating my own beliefs by writing this but I also believe we should set an example so in this one case I can justify it.

Anyway, I haven't actually answered your question yet. There are many things the Bible tells us to do or not to do that many Christians ignore. Since I try very hard not to be one of them, I can't explain why they do it.

The only reason I can come up with is ignorance. I don't know many Christians that actually study their Bible although I know several who have made a big deal of the fact that they're read the entire Bible cover to cover and sometimes they brag that they've read it 2 or 3 or more times.

I have never attempted to just read the Bible as if it were a novel because it's too hard to remember details doing it that way. The only way to truly learn the word of God is to take the time to study, not just read.

So again, I can only conclude that the Christians that pray out loud are doing so out of ignorance.

Jesus encouraged the disciples to pray in secret in their private rooms as a humble response to the prayer of the Pharisees, whose practices in prayer were regarded as inpious by the New Testament writers (Matthew 6:6).

According to Luke, Jesus frequently seeks to pray alone, for hours at a time Luke 6:12, as most pertinently seen before he was betrayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Accordingly...Jesus thought that public prayer was inpious.

There is nothing wrong having a long prayer, but I agree with you with people praying out loud because I truly do not care what other peoples' problems are because if I hear there prayers what the heck do to solve their problems when I am not God.

Firstly Christians, lie, steal, cheat, kill, have sex with their neighbours wife, what they do with their neighbours ***, you don't want to know.

But that is some christians. The vatican flies in the face of the teaching of Jesus. Worshipping Buddha is against the direct teaching of the buddha.

So, the true nature of religion is in your heart, not your actions.

Jesus said, don't show off your prayers. Don't be vain in praying. It is between you and God. But some people lead others in prayer and this is not against this idea.

PS: the bible says we can keep slaves too, as long as they are from another country. If you are from the US, go enslave a Canadian tomorrow.

we are not breaking the "rules" as you call it- there are many instances in scripture that speak of people praying together, and out loud- Jesus prayed with His disciples, believers in Acts came together to pray. What the passage you are referring to speaks of is vain and repetitious prayer that is prayed for all to hear- instead of just God. When we pray in groups we are not to pray so others will be impressed with our words. Does that help?

There are all different stages of Christianity. You do not get saved and become perfect. You get saved and each day hopefully improve and mature in your walk with the Lord. Why point fingers and say someone is not good enough or doing right enough, the most important thing is that someone is trying and attempting to grow in Christ.

Sorry Riegan, the Bible says we are to: to pray in silence, in private, at the altar, in the temple, with our bretheran, with the "lost", with loud voice, with boldness, with forgiveness, believing as we pray, in the Spirit, etc., etc., etc.,.

(List goes on and on.)

While I myself try not to pray here in R&S, I AM "guilty" of it, especially when someone ASKS for prayer.

Although I see no reason to pray on Y!A, that passage is specifically commenting on a group of people who prayed on the streets so that everyone could see.
