My ex and I were together for almost 4 years. I bought a house and he lived there with me and another roomie. In that time, he only paid rent three times in 1.5 years. He is 25 and only had to pay $400/ month to live there. The only time we go out is if I pay. He just takes and takes and the minute he had any money he bought something for himself. I didn't even nag him for the first year because I thought he was going through a rough time and I saw that this was a pattern. I am all about standing by my man and i did that for a long time. I love him but I didnt see a future with him since he is too lazy to even be able to take care of himself. I felt like his mother and that does not help the sex life. He moved out a few months before we broke up and now lives with his friend, my cousin, and pays him nothing to live their either. He said "I would rather take advantage of my friends then my girlfriend". I am so hurt. Should I have continued to support him?

Heck no, you did the right thing! He will never learn to do anything for himself until everyone else stops doing it for him! I wonder why so many people at this age are like this? Did the mothers from that age make them so dependant on them or other people that they cannot or willnot take care of themselves!
Go find yourself someone who is a mate, not your oldest child! Way to go!

If he is really worth you then he must be able to share the problems with you. He should be man enough to pay the rent. Coming to "taking advantage"...he should never do that even to his spouse!
I feel the guy is not taking advantage but taking you for granted. remember money comes and goes but morality comes and grows!Money can break any relationships!

If he really wasn't going through a rough time and had the money to give you he should have payed his share. I think you did the right thing. He shouldn't have taken advantage of you.

No, you should have tossed the bum out long ago. But that's OK. Money is replaceable. So is a boyfriend - and you wouldn't believe how quickly, too.

Cut your losses and move on. Dump this bum. Yes, that means don't go out with him - and certainly don't have sex with him no matter how "good" that may be.

Invite your cousin to move in with you to share expenses - But only if he dumps the bum, too.

He'll continue this bumming pattern until he runs out of suckers.

No... you did the right thing. It sounds like he needs to grow up and he won't if you continue to take care of him. His present situation isn't helping him either. You need to find a man who will treat you with respect and take care of you for a change.

I didn't even finish reading your q. You can break up for whatever reason if you feel like it. It's your life. Do what you want to be happy.
