for example if your are a mormon but baptisim but have left the church and some of former church members find out you've join U.S. Armed Services to become Chaplin. can you be excommunicated for that>? I am a woman so that might give some idea about why I am asking.

Might be a good idea to ask an elder or Bishop of the church that question, you are going to get all kinds of answers here from people who don't know anything about LDS.

This is an interesting dilemma. The church has no prohibitions against military service, or service as an LDS Chaplin. An LDS Chaplin is always male, since it involves the priesthood. There cannot be a woman LDS Chaplin.
However, if this Chaplin is non-denominational, and they are not functioning as LDS representatives, excommunication isn't likely, although the person may have put themselves in an "Apostate" like position: A female with ecclesiastical autonomy, even if it still states "LDS" on the dog tags.
Alternately if one desires to have their name removed from the LDS church records, they must take that initiative themselves.

We have Mormon chaplains in the military. We have thousands of members in the military. You are correct that most Mormon chaplains are men holding the Melchizedek Priesthood. However, the military does not require that status to be a chaplain. There is no crime in being a military chaplain when the military allows you to do so. The danger I perceive for you is in the teaching of doctrines contrary to official church doctrines. I know that chaplains receive special training to be able to minister to multiple faiths. There is no harm in that. Not holding the Melchizedek Priesthood means that you won't be able to fully serve your Mormon servicemen that come to you.
You do mention that you have become inactive from the Church. You need to decide for yourself whether to reaffirm your membership and fellowship with the Church or whether to sever that relationship. Currently, you are still a member of record. The only way for you to be excommunicated would be for you to see your local Bishop and request that your name be removed from the records of the Church. Nothing you have written indicates a cause for removal from membership in and of itself. Excommunication is an official removal from Church membership. It usually indicates some serious sin that puts you out of harmony with the teachings and doctrines of the Church. You don't indicate anything like that in your statement. If you have become personally disaffected from the Church and no longer wish to be affiliated with it, then you may request removal from membership, ie. excommunication.
I believe the Church leaders will want to talk to you about the leadership position you are joining in the military because of the opportunity you have to influence others.
Please consider carefully your position before you take any drastic action in that direction.
Lovingly, Rex Cluff

Ex-communication is only for very serious offenses such as adultery, murder, etc. What you want to do is just have your name removed from their record of membership. To do this just get a hold of a Bishop of the LDS church and tell them. They will need your date of birth and if you know it your baptism date and location. Also your parents name if you were baptized as a child. That's it. It is not a big deal. The LDS church will be happy to do this for you if you do not want to be a member. They would much rather remove your name then to have you do something drastic to demand a Bishop's court for an ex-communication.

Excommunication from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints usually happens as a consequence of serious transgressions such as adultery, apostasy, etc. The situation you describe most likely does not warrant any action from the church. See a bishop or stake president for a more detailed explanation.

Just tell them you wish to resign your membership of the church, and renounce the teachings of Joseph Smith to if you like, that usually upsets them. 100 years ago you would have got killed for that in Utah. They loved their blood atonemnet in those days.

I think the site is www.ex-mormon.org that tells you how to legally leave the church, you have to legally do it, becaus eit takes an act of God for you to leave the church LOL, you know they have to go into theit mountain vault to remove your name, and info LOL and they don;'t give that up so easy, so it has to be done with a POA.
