Eat a diet high in protein from lean sources such as skinless chicken breasts and lean beef, with lots of fruit and veggies. Switch to skim milk and low- or non-fat dairy. Make sure you are getting enough fiber- carbs such as rice, pasta and bread, should come from whole grains-check ingredient labels for "100% whole wheat" as the 1st ingredient. This diet will help you to maintain muscle while losing fat at the same time.
You should be doing plenty of cardio, at least 4 times a week, but the amount and intensity will depend on your fitness level. I, personally, love interval training. A sample routine would be warming up by walking for 10 minutes, then alternating 1 minute of running with 2 minutes of jogging or fast walking, for 30-45 minutes. Cool down for 10 minutes and stretch. With interval training you end up working harder than if you had tried doing a higher intensity workout for a longer period of time, you are less prone to injury thanks to the mini-breaks, and as you get more fit, you can extend the length of time you work at a higher intensity for a tougher workout.
Make sure you also strength train for at least 20 minutes, 2-3 times a week. This will help keep you strong and toned, and will also help in preventing muscle loss.
With this kind of plan, you should be able to lose at least 2 lbs a week, which is a healthy weight-loss rate.
Stay away from anything that requires you to fast, any liquid diets, and anything that asks you to eat less than 1,200 a day-most of the weight you lose will be water, and any real weight you lose will be mostly muscle instead of fat. Don't believe the hype.
Hope this helps.

A study found that people who lose fat quickly often put it back on later and are more likely to have a heart attack than people who stay fat.

But if you want to lose fat and put on muscle....high protien, low carb diet with lots of exercise. To keep muscle bulk do high repitiion weights (10+), to build muscle do low repitition weights (3-8).

But most importantly, to be healthy and lose fat, do lots of cardio vascular exercise.

Remember, if muscle replaces fat, you won't lose as much weight as you expect.

Depends what you have more of if its fat then fat, and vice versa. The reason fasts and other dramatic plans don't work is that after a day of not eating your body goes into starvation mode and when you do start eating again your body will store more fat for the next time you decided to do this.

If you really want to try something that is not only good for you, but you will enjoy eating the food you should read the following. About 6 months ago a friend of mine turned me on to this diet. When I first heard the name of it, I thought she was crazy. The diet is called The Asian Noodle Diet. I gave it a shot and lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks and the food was really good. The website http://www.asiannoodlediet.com has all the info as well as a diet plan and receips. I recommend you try this before anything else.
