Their babies are hatching and they are very protective. Even when the cat isn't close to the nest.

I am having the same problem. And they are screeching like crazy! One dive-bombed ME when I was walking and my cat was following. And they are ganging up 3 at a time to dive-bomb the neighbor's cat.

They have never done this before. They seem to have gone postal!

I seem to recall hearing that Magpies are territorial. Do they have a nest hear by? Are your cats maybe a little too curious about the Magpies? Don't get me wrong, I love cats but if they are putting their noses where the Magpies live, the birds are not going to be happy!

Cats are a preditor by nature and cats like to go after birds. The birds ''dive bomb'' the cats to chase them away to protect their nests and young ones. Not to worry, the cats can take care of themselves in that situation and the ''divebombing'' birds won't fly to close to the cats as not to become ''dinner''.

They are protecting their nests. This is common behavior -- almost ALL birds will do this when they see a predator too close to their babies.
