No, but that is how religions end up getting liberalized and some religions are opposed to that concept.

The concept, for example, that gays are to be treated equally and afforded rights and not made criminals.

That concept certainly doesn't emminate from MANY religious views.

Then the question is how do get religion to go along with it.

That's the tough part or do we just give things lip service to exercise our vocal cords and then go back along our old, conservative ways.

Absolutely correct you are! I am an atheist, I value all life and try to treat everyone with the respect that they deserve. Modern ideas about respect for human rights are a product of years of evolution of human society. I don't need some "beast in the sky" to teach me how to behave, my parents did a good job (I hope). There's good, and then there's bad... You make your own choices according to the values instilled into you by those who brought you up. (By the way, looking at the so called "christian" replies above we can all see the spew, the self-righteousness, the insults that always accompany them. Way to go kkkristians, thank your redneck parents. Of course you are the only "right" ones)

All "goodness" apart from God (the real God not allah) is temporary because man can change what is good when it no longer suits him. In the last 30 years, our society has said that homosexuality and abortion are good, but this is after almost 6,000 years of following God's word and recognizing that it was not good to kill your unborn child or be a sodomite.

I say the Creator really doesn't give a squat what label we give to our beliefs, or whether we label them at all.

God's laws are much more universal, and if He/She keeps a scorecard it has only one column - Love.

The evolution of your soul and your spiritual progress depends on only one thing - the level at which your choices radiate the Love of the Creator.

Everything else is human drama and totally insignificant in the grand scheme of the universe.

Human history clearly shows what man will do to his fellow man and that has not changed, read the news, better yet google current wars and see how much human rights are considered.

Spoken like the devil himself. Genesis 3. The tempting prospect of having knowledge of good and evil apart from God.

so what is wrong with it? Nothing. But normal conversations between people do not occur on this site, that you need to find some contact or friend to conduct with.

Not only that, but some common ground that people usually have between friends at home or such also is needed for this to happen.

Without this common ground, normal conversation doesn't flow.

Yes, I agree. If all of life is seen through only one lens, be it religious, political, or philosophical, then it is a distorted perception.

It is my feeling that a person can live a good life guided by compassion and reason alone.

There is nothing wrong with it.

You speak truth with knowledge.

The whole planet needs to get off it high horse and do something rather than talk about it.

Human right don't just happen they are made and developed by caring communities.
