In February I discovered a lump in my breast - which turned out to be a bengin tumor. I went and got it checked out and they told me it wasn't big enough to worry about right now and to come back in 6 months. Well I've been watching it, and it was gotten 2-3 time bigger since then and it has begun hurting and I can't sleep on that side anymore. I went back to the doctor yesterday and she forwarded me to a doctor for the surgical diseases of the breast to discuss the option of getting it out (I go on Tuesday). Anyone ever had this happen to them? I just want some insight on what to look forward to when meeting with her. How would it be taken out? Would the lump be tested to be positive there was no cancer in it? Serious replies will be much appreciated. Thanks!

I've had one removed and one drained. They are usually benign. If they hurt, I was told, then it's a good thing. It's the ones that don't hurt that you need to worry about. A little scar and a few stitches and you'll be just fine. Make sure that you follow up with mammos as required.

Good Luck!

I have been experiencing the very same thing for almost 7 years now. If it is inflamed and sore, you should be on an antibiotic to clear up any infection. I used to put ice packs on the area at night so I could get some relief and sleep!! My cist has been removed three times already and I am scheduled to have it done again on June 21st. I asked the surgeon last week why I keep getting these and she said sometimes women get a small infection in one of their milk ducks and then it grows into a cist. Usually they just let them go away on their own but it is good to have it removed if it is bothering you and it's a pretty easy procedure done under freezing and only one or two stitches are required to close it. When they remove it, they always test it for cancer and in most cases when it hurts you, it is usualy benine. Most cancerous tumors do NOT cause pain so that should ease your mind some!! I wish you all the best.

she'll examine you and tell you what types of procedures are offered and they will test the tumor after it's removed to make sure it is benign. relax. the sugeon will answer all your q's better than anyone here can.
