Jay,

The name of Jesus is all powerful - He is the Word, the Logos (John 1).

His followers, when faced with temptation, need only to call upon His name.

Eastern Christians recite this prayer: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have mercy on me a sinner." How powerful a prayer that is!

We are told to pray in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit! What is the name of the Son? Jesus!

Some quotes about Jesus' name:

"Jesus, Name full of glory, grace, love and strength! You are the refuge of those who repent, our banner of warfare in this life, the medicine of souls, the comfort of those who morn, the delight of those who believe, the light of those who preach the true faith, the wages of those who toil, the healing of the sick. To You our devotion aspires; by You our prayers are received; we delight in contemplating You. O Name of Jesus, You are the glory of all the saints for eternity. Amen."

St. Bernardine of Sienna. Rev. Charles Dollen, Prayer Book of the Saints, Our Sunday Visitor (1984)

"Naught but the name of Jesus can restrain the impulse of anger, repress the swelling of pride, cure the wound of envy, bridle the onslaught of luxury, extinguish the flame of carnal desire - can temper avarice, and put to flight impure and ignoble thoughts."

St. Bernard of Clairvaux 'On the Name of Jesus'.

Flog your enemies with the Name of Jesus, for there is no weapon more powerful in heaven or on earth.

St. John Climacus 'Ladder of Divine Ascent'." M. Pepper, The Harper Religious & Inspirational Quotation Companion., Harper & Row (1989).

"There is power in the very Name, something all pagan religions know. To know someone's name means to have power over them, however external: they will, after all, turn round for you if you name them aloud, stop in their tracks, look up." "Jesus has freely given us his name,. which means 'Saviour'. It has extraordinary power: do we use it?"

Sister Wendy Beckett, The Myster of Love, Harper Collins (1996) p. 56.

In Christ's name,

Amen!

There is no other name that all creatures of God must bow their knee to; satan would love to have this ultimate majesty but cannot, so if he cannot have it, then he does his best to cause people to mock the holy name of Jesus, and this forum is just a small example of this.

John a million:a million In the starting used to be the Word, and the Word used to be with God, and the Word used to be God. He used to be with God within the starting. The Word grew to be flesh and made his living amongst us. We have visible his glory, the honor of the One and Only, who got here from the Father, filled with grace and fact. John a million:14
