I'm 25, and there are the youth that were raised and went to Church all their life. Some of the them who rebelled will find their way back hopefully, some just need to be talked to by peers closer to their age who believe..There is so much peer pressure out there now and it's not cool to serve God, etc.. is what they are being told. There are others though that yearn to know more, but aren't getting that in their family, so we as teachers are teaching them as best as we can about Jesus. I was not one that found God in my family all the time. I rebelled against my parents and went to Church as I wanted to get away from their arguing. I found family and community there more than I got in my own family. Just pray for the youth that they find Jesus. They will in their own time and way. It helps though if the older folks set the example. I use to watch television 24/7 but not any more, as I've come to realize there isn't anything worth watching much any more except 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, family oriented shows. There is too much garbage out there for these kids today.

"Why do today's youth turn away from Jesus? "
Because they develop critical thinking skills.
As to the rest of your idiocy...
I'm really glad I'm not your child. You clearly have no sense of family. You seriously disowned your child for changing his beliefs? You have no idea what love is, and that poor child is better off away from you. You are in desperate need of some counseling. Punishing someone for no longer being Christian just goes to show how bad of a Christian you are. If you had been a true Christian, you would have set a good example and he probably would not have left.
I hope your granddaughter escapes your abuse quickly. She will be happier once she follows in your grandson's example.

You do mention some valid reasons why youth turn away from Christ.
The entertainment industry has made a large contribution to sapping spirituality.
I noticed you did not mention religion as a cause for youth turning away from Christ.
When a religion preaches a 'divine mystery' such as the trinity, not even able to explain it themselves, one can't blame an inquisitive mind for developing doubts.
Also, when so many priests, parsons and reverands come up empty, no sound answers, to decent questions ....the disappointment is crushing.
I agree with your comment, but you did not go far enough.
Christendom has been a poor representative of Christianity.

Maybe, deep down, he was hoping you could give him a good answer as to why he should believe since you are obviously a faithful person. He is in college to learn and question and we must, as believers, be ready to defend our faith when these questions arise.
Please don't punish him for having these questions. He will just use that as an excuse to justify his position. (Christians are too judgemental.)
Instead, show him that you respect his position, as wrong as it may be, and he will be more open to listening to you.
Don't quote the Bible just yet. After all, if he is an athiest it will mean nothing to him at this time.
To start with, get down to basics: How do I know God exists? and build from there.
For an excellent treatment of this, go to the website of Peter Kreeft. He has audio as well as written proofs of the existence of God as well as many other topics.
Another excellent resource is "The Case for Faith" by Lee Strobel. Show your grandson the love that Jesus would want you to show and there is an excellent chance you can bring him back to God. Be patient, I'm sure God is counting on you, that is why He made this boy your grandson.
May God bless you and your family

What if I informed you it exchange right into a sin to breath? you may walk around feeling in charge each and every so often, and carry your breath each and every so often to purpose and combat what only can not be fought. Your physique could have the launch no count in case you're on top of issues of it or no longer, to illustrate, in case you have been able to hold your breath for 4 to 5 minutes you may lose know-how and initiate respiration returned immediately. Sexual stress and fluid imbalance are an analogous. you do no longer touch your self for 2 or 3 weeks, once you're asleep, your physique will do it besides and you will wake in a large number. From the Christian element ov view? there are 2 billion people who say they're Christians, they characterize each and every demographic in the international, each and every will inform you what they think of, or what their sect has indoctrinated, yet contained in the top there is no longer something contained in the bible that announces masturbation is a sin. And something this is inherent, respiration, blinking your eyes, sound asleep, sexual enhance and launch, are organic and finally ungovernable organic and organic purposes. If something approximately those issues is sin, then the fault lies with the regulation maker, no longer the guy who's concern to their physique. this is to no longer say we have no administration... we've a superb style of decision in how we use our sexuality, I recommend if we predict of approximately hurting human beings on an analogous time as masturbating, then this is something that could desire to be seen unethical. So it somewhat is what we direct that potential in direction of that could have an outward effect on our habit faster or later in time. however the actual act of masturbation in and of its self isn't a sin in accordance to the bible.

Imagine the state we'd be in if God did it that way... what if he washed his hands of us in Eden?
Your judgement on your grandson, contrary to what Jesus taught, will only serve to drive him farther from the faith.
What example have you set that he has decided he is a non-believer?
People of all ages turn away - stop picking on the youth and look at the example we older folks have set for them to follow - the scripture says to train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. There are two sides to that - if we train them to Godliness, they will seek God. If they seek the things not of God, we can only deduce that we have trained them that way - either that or the Bible is lying about the whole issue.
And females in the 50s and 60s were active in the things you deplore today, once you look under the veneer of modern culture.

Wow. Are you serious? In case you are, here goes:
Youth are turning away from Jesus because of people like you. The attitude that atheists are hippy types is totally wrong. I was raised in the house of the Lord, and I am an atheist too. Youth are more educated nowadays, and they are embracing the premise of independent thought. Just because YOU believe in something does not make it right and does not mean your grandson should believe it. Maybe he made an informed decision that the fairy tale you embrace is false.
We are not in trouble as a nation because of the LACK of religion, but rather from the surplus of the "In God We Trust" supporters.
You are being totally unreasonable for refusing to help pay for his college, etc. ALL BECAUSE HE DOES NOT BELIEVE THE SAME WAY YOU DO? That's utterly ridiculous. AND, what you call paying consequences will probably push him farther away from you and Jesus. Punishment should not be the motivation for loving the Lord.

They don't know any better. Many children aren't raised in the faith, and those who are tend to go through a stage of rebellion - especially if it's crammed down their throats. They need to have the freedom to decide for themselves. If we beat people over the head with our bibles, it tends to create resentment and push them AWAY from God. Jesus didn't do it that way, and we're supposed to imitate Him. Matthew 13 tells the parable of the farmer who sows the seed, and the soils the seed falls on. NOWHERE in the parable does it say anything about the farmer trying to force the seed to grow - that is GOD'S job. We are to plant the seed and pray for right results. I work around many college students who don't believe, but because I don't go around preaching at them, they are willing to listen to godly advice with an open heart when they DO ask for my opinion. The best witness we have available to these children is the way we live our lives, because they are NOT going to listen to sermons. God will deal with them in HIS time - they will either turn to Him, or suffer the consequences later.

I don't think you comprehend what christianity really is. I'm very sorry for you, but have to wonder if you aren't the reason your grandson turned his back on Christ. Maybe its because of your bad fruit, which I gotta say disinheriting a child for not believing what you want them to is very rotten fruit indeed. Christ loves us unconditionally, you don't seem to have a clue what that means, so you're a very bad example of a christian, which would turn people away from Christ. Take a good long look in the mirror before blaming your grandson.

The problem with the nation is too many people trying to stick their nose in everybody else's business; including Christians trying to make this country into a theocracy.
